I know a lot of you have been experiencing slow load times here lately. We are sorry about that and are doing our best to optimize the server to give much faster load times and be more stable; however, that is proving to be quite difficult to achieve.
In the next month we will most likely have some major changes/upgrades and those should help with the load times as well.
Because of those changes it is more than likely that MPC might be down for a few days in the middle of this month while we implement them. Do not worry we will be back as soon as possible.
You can always join our IRC channel to talk to the people there, but we ask not to flood the channel with questions about why MPC is down. Check the channel topic and it will most likely have an explanation of why.
server: irc.rizon.net
channel: #mpc

I'm not saying MPC will go down till mid october, I am saying MPC might be down for a day or two while we format the server and upgrade a whole bunch of shit.

Guys, just a notice, when you get a MYSQL error try not to hit the damn refresh button all the time,it makes the server stop responding so it will take more time for you to see the page.Be patient!

Thank you for telling us..was starting to think my comp was just messing up or something. Whats causing the server to run slow?

large load and long time without a cleanup, hopefully when we upgrade and optimize server that will fix it; next week or the week after at the latest is when I hope to get this all done.

Maybe it would help to delete users who have been inactive for a while with 0 total posts. I dont know if this is already happening or not but it could speed it up a bit I guess.

It doesnt happen on usual occasion. But it's very easy to do, maybe we should?

It will be done when the upgrade is performed. I already asked VF about that. :)

I wonder how many members will be left afterwards... hmm... 50k?:P
Diddle
20th October 2005, 19:54
Mwah, I thought there were about 30k users in the 'Waiting e-mail confirmation' group. Then there are loads of people that don't post, just leech, so yeah, 50k or maybe 60k would be a nice guess. :P
Maybe we should get that hack (or is it just a setting?) that if the account isn't activated within 48 hours it'll be deleted.

Yeah, we should. I can't understand why we keep those accounts.

Silly question... is MPC downloads, the radio station plus other sites all on the same server???
I don't think the size of the database that is so important, i mean these is 564 members on now, 564!!!!! Thats 564 people sending lots of data to the server, people logging on and off all the time, posting.... maybe the Server can simply not handle it. You must get through tons of Bandwith.
Maybe reduce the number of games you support? This is simply a suggestion... reduce number of people.. or get a spankin good server :)

MPCdownloads is totally different.

we have a dedicated server as is already, the problem is not so much that the server can't handle it but that the server wasn't cleaned out in a long time, it need a full reinstall to run better again.
