Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will I be banned by VAC2 if I cheat with a VAC2 Proof Hack?
A: VAC2 banning can be delayed for up to 5 weeks. We're not sure how VAC2 detect cheats, so only play with VAC2 Proof hacks and stop playing with that particular hack, when it's reported to be detected. Check this forum regularly to stay up-to-date.

Q: How will VAC2 (Valve Anti Cheat v2) detect cheats and how does it ban you?
A: It will scan the game folder and game memory for changes that shouldn't be there. It might also scan for running processes to determine whether you have a loader running or not. If you get caught, you won't be able to play on VAC2 Secure servers anymore (almost all). You can still play on insecure servers though (almost none).
Disclaimer: Since VAC2 is new, it might hold new features in detecting cheats and banning the owners, so expect anything, but the general idea stands above.

Q: I want to keep cheating, but I don't want to lose my account! How?
A: Make sure you only use VAC2 proof hacks or play on insecure servers only. (Change this in your ingame filter settings in the serverlist)

Q: When I have cheats on my harddrive, will I get banned?
A: No, only if you use them or have them running while playing on a CS/CS:S/DoD:S server with VAC enabled and you don't have them in your Steam folder.

Q: How can I get my account unbanned from VAC2?
A: It is impossible to unban your own account unless VALVE is so kind to do it for you. Here is an example of people unbanned from VAC2 (http://www.mpcforum.com/showthread.php?t=103295), however, this is total luck for those people and not usual. You can get a new account for less than US$30 in the right online shops. Talk about the illegal versions of CS/CS:S/DoD:S is still not allowed, even if you're VAC2 banned.

Q: Somebody said he recorded me and send the demo including my SteamID to Valve! Am I screwed bigtime now?
A: Valve has always stated at their site that they don't ban people based on the evidence provided by either a demo or screenshots or SteamID's. They only ban using VAC. You can read this statement of Valve here (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=93665) and here (http://steampowered.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/steampowered.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=58).

Q: How do I check if I'm banned by VAC2? Sometimes when I join a server, the server says I'm banned.
A: Open your Steam account and click on Settings. It'll show whether your account is 'in good standing' or 'banned from secure servers because of a cheating infraction'.

Q: Any further advice?
A: While cheating, there will always be the risk of losing your account, one way or another. If you want to be on the safe side, don't cheat. If you like to have a great advantage over other people, then you'll have to take the risk (which we try to keep as small as possible btw). And always regularly check if the hack you're using is still VAC2 Proof by visiting MPC regularly!

Just wondering...I was banned January 2005 and It said I got grandfathered which is 1 year or something like taht...does that still apply or is it permanent now? :(

ihateacid
8th September 2006, 23:17
if ur banned with grandfathered-games like the HL1-series games[CS1.6, CS:CZ...] in jan 2005, ur ban should expire in a year

however, they [VALVe/Steam] changed their policy somewhere end-last year that all bans are permenant, so im not sure

just keep ur account for another year :P, if it doesnt come off, dont expect it to
