it will prove useful now to be able to use the battlefield editor to load the bf2 maps and to look at their settings and values (and possibly modify them) in order to find them within memory.
who has been able to successfully load a bf2 map into the editor and then change a value and then save it and then load it as a mod into the game (even if single player mode, ok) and get it to work. i struck out. apparently i didn't put enough time into it, read it wrong, or did something wrong.
if you can do a quick step by step for this it would help-

your first step is honorble.
but as far as i know if your version and the server version of the map isnt the same you just get kicked for wrong client version or modified game data.
You could possibly use this editor to do your own maps, but nothin more.

Yea we use to do that sort of thing to find a different dma fog value and were able to make hacks that way, but that was in 1942/vietnam. I havent tried it yet in bf2.
You see, for fog, there are 2 different addresses with values you could change in bf1942/vietnam. You could use the Options>Video settings slider way or you could find the actual fog distance values and change them.
ger-eL, you might not know what we did in the past and is why you said that. But caliber has been here since the beginning and knows we use to do such things in the past. Its not so much to use a different version while playing online, it that there are values that can be changed, loaded on single player(or maybe a multiplayer server that your running yourself so you can load the modified map), that when the values are changed, are much easier to find and then can mess around with that code for them values. Then to play normally, restore the orignal map.

and i did use it and found the addresses faster that way. spon is right, i just copied the map and then did my searches with the hacked map and then copied the original back and poof it works online again and i deleted the hacked map. see the thread on fog and 1.12
