I'm sure you've all noticed that mpc has been down for a few days now. It was caused by a severe database crash (which was a pain to fix from my hotle room).
In either case everything is fixed now, hopefully nothing was lost in the process (nothing should have been lost in theory).

Glad to know everything is back up and running. On IRC VF told us it would be a week until it's back up. I'm so happy he was wrong :P

Thanks for the best Tech Admin ever.
You're the man luck. Your hard work is appreciated, at least here.
But we all know it's a temporary solution until... next time.
I hope we can find a permanent solution soon.
Thanks again.
Enjoy the rest of your trip :ermm:

Is it being crashed by someone, or is it just going down?

Now I'm gonna have to stop those "MPC is down, blame it on luck" jokes :P. Nice job luck. I have a hard time trying to make my teeny forum work properly, I can't imagine the work it takes to run this place

well I was sorta in the middle of my plane trip back, finally home again now, gonna get some sleep and ba back as usual tomorrow (maybe even more since my last exam is on the 16th and I get a few days break now after that trip ;))

actually this time I can't even blam it on the server O.O :P it was some random (as far as I know) corruption in a few mysql tables, that was probably some people were having problems posting a few days ago and then the huge database error. I just had to clean up those tables manually by hand (luckily it wasn't one of the huge tables such as posts) and that seemed to fix the problems, then did (a tiny littly bit) of optimization of the mysql settings and that didn't seem to kill the server either so....... hopefully things will be a bit better now.

I have to agree with scruie luck, whatever you did to fix it also made it a lot faster for me as well :)

Forums are a lot faster here as well.
Maybe we lost a lot of people that still think that the site is down :x

530 people online now total, server still seems to be running fast enough hopefully those mysql optimizations were a good idea

Hey, this is shock. It seems as if my account has dissapeared ;o
I am not sure if it has anything to do with the crash but I tried my password 4 times, didn't work, tried to reset it and it didn't work (said my account doesn't exist) so I tried to email the administrators with the problem and this reply (for all emails) :
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification
Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
WebMaster@MPCForum.com
Technical details of permanent failure:
PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 9): 550 <WebMaster@MPCForum.com>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual alias table
BTW my account was registered under this email address, I have absolutely no idea what happened. I have been using it fine the past couple of weeks, wondering what happened...
thx

At the time of the upgrade of vBulletin there were over 70k inactive accounts deleted. It's most likely yours was one of those.

what was your account name?
webmaster@mpcforum.com doesn't exist therefore the error.

Right after wooolF left the forums, something just like this happened. I don't remember what was wrong, or if I ever found out what caused the problem to occur... I think it was someone's name actually.... I had to change their name and alter all the posts they made manually in the database to fix the problem since vBB couldn't fix it by itself. I don't think this has anything to do with that, but keep on the lookout for any threads breaking because of funny names, because that is how it started that time before.

I don't remember any broken threads. But i'll keep an eye on that.
One weird thing is if you check the Members list, the first name starts with 'E'.
That's because he has a 'space' before the name starts.
But it's been like that for a while now.
