Hey had a question all the talk of PB not detecting serial numbers on a SCSI/Raid/SATA drives is very unclear…
For one…. the forum has no real answer to this question some say yes and some say no..
Most of what I have found says no…(does say raid in not detected though) .
Do think it would be a good Idea to for you guys to make it a sticky or at least give the real answer to this topic…(if the real answer is known)
Which brings my concern .. I don’t see why if they can detect and IDE drive why not a SATA …now a raid I can understand but not a SCSI or SATA .. if the SCSI was on a controller card maybe but not and onboard SCSI…anyone know??

I also know that RAID isn't detectable atm.
But I didn't hear anything about SATA nor SCSI.

Raid isnt detectable.
SATA is.
SCSI is.
There are exceptions to the rule ... sometimes certain PCI controller cards will hide the HD's identifiers. So really you will have to test for yourself.

ok answer my question now plz , no one did it already.
so i got 2 hd's
1 SATA
1 IDE and they are both banned?
but if i buy an other SATA disk and put them in RAID im unbanned then? ( and spoof my mac adres )
thanks

And removed the banned IDE?
Yes, you'll be unbanned. (I'm almost sure)

what ive heard is a SATA in a RAID controller is unabannable, so if you diable all the other HD's , assuming that the SATA is your primary drive, change the NIC device you use to connect and Mac Spoof it, and disable ALL other NIC devices as well as your sound card and make a new aa accoutn you should be unbanned. sadly this didnt work for me but that is becuase my internet service provider does not allow me to spoof my mac address becuase of the way i connect ( if any1 could help me with this i would appreciate it ). i also apologise for any spelling/grammar mistake as im using a new keyboard and im not used to it yet.

both IDE (PATA) and SATA RAID setups are unbannable; however if u have a third hdd in a setup which is banned PB will still kick for banned hardware, this is due to PB banning upto the first 10 hdd.
If you have a separate SATA/IDE drive which you use for data/backup then simply disabling it via device manger is sufficient for you to play a PB enabled game without restarting the PC.
Any SATA or IDE drive in a single setup can and will be banned.
According to mcMike, if i read correctly SCSI is detectable.

That pretty much sums it.
Anything to add?

yes, sponj u wrote that u need to disable all the nic ?
network cards ?
if i look at my network connections i got this
LAN-Connection
and
1394-connection
and
1394-connection 2
what do i need to disable :s
i can change my mac easy so thats not the problem.

Disable the firewire - 1394 connections as these have been known to be bannable. Also if u have a Creative Audigy then make sure you disable its Firewire aswell. I find disabling via device manager to be a better and easier choice.
Onboard NIC need to be disabled thru the BIOS if your going to replace it with a standard PCI NIC card.

i got audigy 4 , does pb hw ban that to wtf ? lol i don't gonna play with onboard sound!
(can i disable the firewire option in that card? )

I know that RAID,SATA and SCSI are different harddrives but may you explain more about them.

I explain best I can in simple terms..
You have 3 different hard drives
1. IDE ….IDE is the old type hardrive most of you have..it uses the wide/skinny cable that you can hook up two drives on one is the master and one is the slave drive…Also called PATA or ultra ATA ..these driver are obsolete and will be gone soon…
2. SATA ….SATA is the replacement for the IDE they use the small cable that looks like a USB cable… only one drive per cable no master/slave anymore. they have been out for almost 2 years..all new motherboard built in the last 2 years have several hookup for the SATA..anything before that most likely does not..you can buy a add on or (controller card) that will fit in the PCI slot same as a sound card that will have SATA hookups on it.. if you board is old and does not have one..
3. SCSI drives are rare..and very very expensive. Very few motherboards have SCSI hookups most use a (controller card) in the PCI slot.. SCSI are screaming fast drives and have been around for a long time.. they run between 10,000 to 15,000 RPM’s were the other two types run at 7,000 RPM’s…there designed for business that had important data on them and required a very reliable hardrives with performance…and servers …..they are build much better that the other two drives for this reason’s good SCSI drive will run you about $300-400 US..
any of these drives can be put in a raid set up ....
EDIT
I Wanted to seperate this from the upper part so it gets read,,lol
thanks for the replies that Answers a lot.. but still have one more question but don’t expect anyone knows the answer.. What about raid 5 or software raid…
Software raid is when you take one hard rive and make different partitions and use them kind of like a Virtual drive . like Alcohol 120% makes fake CD ROMS.. This makes in a way…. fake hard rives then make them into a raid.. Software raids are worthless for performance but would they make the drive undetectable..????

@ ownzor just use device manager to disable all firewire; I have attached a pic here (http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/583/firewiredisable7ew.gif) to help. You are not disabling the Soundcard just the Firewire bit, I have the same card.
@ 2FACETANNER the following might help;
Hard-Drive Basics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_drive)
PATA HDD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PATA)
SATA HDD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sata)
SCSI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scsi)
RAID (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redundant_array_of_independent_disks)
Most desktop computers these days use either IDE/PATA drives or SATA drives, SCSI is often found in servers.

is UATA deteced ( Ultra-ATA )??
rought
11th January 2006, 18:07
yes,, ultra ATA is another name for IDE the old style hardrive that most people have...
dont confuse ultra ATA with SATA or serial ATA they are not the same..
drive one names
1.IDE
2.ultra ATA
3.PATA
drive two names
1.serial ATA
2.SATA
drive three names
1.SCSI
RAID is not a type of drive RAID is a combination of any of the above drives to work together as one drive for reasons of back up or performace
what happens when two drives are used as one in a raid...the serials cannot be detected becuase the combination of the two drives working as one.. confuses
PB...

RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks)
n. system with several hard drives enabling safe storage and fast retrieval of information (Computers) .
All the info is here, stop asking people.
@rought, I think PB isn't even checking in the software level. I'm sure Taurine can answer your question perfectly.

Thanks for the harddrive lesson.
If you were a computer part which part would you be?
All depends on you …
Right now I guess I would be (floppy disk)….:pop:
Now put on something sexy I could be (hard rive):sla:
Drop the soap in the shower I would (ram)
Haahhahhhh…..
ok not funny..
