Forums have been down for the past 3 days (hopefully you guys noticed).

It was mainly because MPC was DDoSed on late thursday and most of friday.

The DDoS was take care of on friday however it seemed like our server hosting company decided to let all their tech guys go get drunk the entire weekend so server stayed off of the network since friday when it was originally taken down.

Neither I nor any of the other admins could bring the server back up remotely since it required someone to be physically at the data center and that was not possible.

Again sorry about the downtime, I will make it up to you guys soon, just hold on a few more days while I get things set up ;)

Whats a DDOS....??
is that a mass packet attack that overtakes the server with data?

Here I quote a short description.DDoS (Destributed Denial of Service)
A DDoS attack comes from multiple computers. A Flood Network (or botnet) enables the attacker to simuntaniously send out false and/or numerous packs. The actual attacker is a single computer, which remains unidentified while it controls several other computers. After such an attack, the victim computer is compleatly unable to perform tasks.

SYN FLOODING
Here the TCP 3way handshaking is used.
Usually a connection to another computer is put up in the 3-way handshaking method.

the client wants to make a connection in this case

Steps:

1) Client -> SYN -> Server
2) Client <- ACK <- Server
3) Client-> SYN & ACK -> Server

A connection to the server at a given port results and data can be confused by HTTP (port 80) or FTP (port 21).

the resulting problem is that an incomplete connection is made to the server, if the client does not make the 3rd step.

In the SYN flooding attack, the first step is repeated so many times until the Backloh Value is reached. The server does not take in any more commands, not even from other legit clients.

I don't see why you have to apoligize for the hosting company's **** up. <--Just trying to gt the cheer back up.
I almost died without my daily dose of MPC. I get pretty cranky if I can't get on MPC or Agerage..Now imagine what would happen to me if both went down O.o

You're telling me, 3 days without MPC makes a difference, and I discovered there are other things to spend my time doing... until it came back up, and here I am. Where exactly is the data center located?

Exactly?
You want a street address and a zip code or what?:P

It's located in Europe :)

PS. If you really need it, you can find it yourself easily.
