I dont understand it,
This is what I did:
I downloaded Mandrak and burned on DVD
I set the BIOS that the boot will start on CD-ROM
I putted DVD in the PC and then restarted my PC
Than the DVD loads but then comes alot of text.. like:
Found USB device 1 of 5 and more of that things
I dont know if that's normal..
Then it stops, it says
A:/> and I can typ text behind it.
What did I wrong?
Does anyone have this same problem?
And does anyone know how to get Linux installed?
Please help me i need to play AA again..

madnrake is old I would suggest you get Mandriva which is the new edition of mandrake (sorta, it's more like a merger between 2 linux versions but it's mostly mandrake at the core) or get SuSe cause that's easy as hell to install.
You can get both for free and legally at www.distrowatch.com, plus getting it at distrowatch guarantees that the version you get is not screwed or anything and is actually working.

Installing SuSE is *****proof. Mandriva is even easier than that.

Ok. this is my problem..
When I install Linux. or other OS, you must install it with BOOT, isn't it?
When I do that, nothing of a screen appears that i am installing a new OS.
Normally a screen will come and say What do you want to do. [EXIT] or something like that.
Do you know what i mean.
I don't get that whole screen.
I get somthing like:
[I]USB device found 1 of 5
New HUB found, preparing to insall..
Then it stops and it says.
A:/>.... I can type some text there.
I don't understand what I do wrong, or what is hapening.
Please help me.
If someone knows what to do, please add me on MSN. mujo51@hotmail.com

#1 how long are you waiting at that screen, can it be that you're just not patient?
#2 which versions and distros have you tried and where did you download them from?
#3 what are these USB devices that it keeps finding do you have any idea?
#4 is your keyboard or mouse USB based or is it PS2 based?
#5 have you tried unplugging all external devices including USB devices from your computer and booting up with just they keyboard, mouse and monitor connected
#6 if you've tried the above I suggest you download a live-cd version of linux such as knoppix (http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html) (get the cd version) and try booting off of that, if that boots fine and doesn't give you any errors then the problem is most likely with the iso image you downloaded or with the cd/dvd you burned, try getting them at a different place and burning with different burning software and see if that helps

why did you make a live CD?
if i were you, id make a 20gb partition for linux and install it on there..
better yet, make a 5gb one for Linux and 15gb for files and shit
and that is assuming you have 20gb free on your HDD.

oh
just use Nero Burning Rom and burn the .iso image to the DVD...Nero now has a fancy GUI that makes everything ever so easy.
Stephen

ok, there is a option DVD (boot), should i take that one or just normal DVD (ISO).
Do i need to MOUNT the .iso image?
And which ISO settings i must choose
[oC]pingu
27th February 2006, 22:27
uh i burned mine as a normal DVD (iso image to DVD, the bootloader for SuSE was there).
just use default setting
then once its burned, turn off your computer, turn it back on, go into your BIOS, make it so the first boot device is your DVD drive, then put in the dvd, close the tray, and save changes and reboot.

yes, linux is very different from XP
You need to have an admin account (root account) and a regular user account (your account). You have to be logged in as admin to install programs and shit.

if you have an nVidia card, download their Linux drivers and you are set. If you have an ATI card, read the sticky on what to do.
