Sorry if this isnt allowed or appears to be begging and what not a mod can lock this once my quick question is answered, the forums are just a little cluttered each time i look i come across a bunch of people asking things and going off topic, i only want people who actully know about this posting please dont post with "CAN YOU HELP ME DO THIS TO!!!" and such its easy to find yourself by searching, i just wanted to "Confirmed" this will work before downloading a 700mb file

anyway to the question, i was reading that a system running linux cannot be HD Banned by PB, and alot of people speaking of linux emulation on windows using live cds and such, well i googled and am downloading one of the programs called "knoppix" i heard it was one of them or im a complete fool lol...

ok so question time

1. Once installed i can run BF2 from were it is already installed, or will i need to purchase/mod so it can be run on linux and not windows?

2. Installing linux i hear allows pass the HD Ban, although what if more is banned? will it get around them all or only the harddrive, ill still need a new NIC card/Spoof Mac and what not or does it remove the ability to be banned completly.

[knoppix Question]
3. The program im installing is a live cd "knoppix" so it boots up from the cd insted of windows, so if i remove the cd windows will still boot up fine? this is a family pc and i dont think my family want to mess around with linux lol, this will just make things simple for me :D

Thank you for your time :bandit:

EDIT: sorry to mod and admins who feel this is in the wrong section i was torn between were to post anti-cheat or bf2 section feel free to move if necessary

Ok, well, from what i know, BF2 is only for windows, because i was banned from AA, and i also have BF2, and as i see it, BF2 will not work for Linux, cause DX is needed and so on, so i dont think u are going to be able to, but if u find a way, lemme know cause i want to play again =-D

Moved from PB Discussion to here, as some memebrs might find this useful.

For those that are too lazy to look for wine: http://www.winehq.com/

Hopefully the more knowledgeable members will provide a few simple tuts for use Windoze users.

use Cedega aka WineX, its a lot faster and better.

Also, make sure you know how to set up everything properly :P

I have Debian OS and WINE installed on my system. Does anyone know if BF2 is capable of working with Debian and WINE(has anyone confirmed this yet)? I have run the command:
wine setup.exe

But I got the following error:

Error Code: -5011 : 0x8000ffff
Error Information:
>Kernel\TextSubstitution.cpp (555)
>SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (551)
pAPP:Battlefield 2(TM)

$10.50.0.125
@Windows 98 A (67766446) BT_OTHER 55640.16493

I guess it's becuase the latest WIN OS wine can only emulate is "windows 98" and well BF2 needs at least "WINXP" :(. I was really looking forward to playing BF2 on Debian... scruie need help dude or anyone else that has some ideas that I could try???

Thanks In Advance :)

Not being a linux user (the horror of it) I did a bit of searching and most of the findins suggest that PB is the problem not the actualy game itself. Most users complain that PB kicks them for 'Unknown API' if they try and play BF2 on LINUX systems.

It's a shame that game developers don't code (or allow) their games to be played on both Windows and Linux. Though I have an inkling that it's more to do with anti-cheat programs than anything.
