so when i installed linux and go play then pb kicked me also?
KizZamP-
22nd January 2006, 16:45
i'll make this simple:
IF you are using windows and are hw banned => you'll get hw ban
IF you install linux you'll be able to play on pb (i have no clue why,but it works)...the downside on linux is that not all hacks and programs on windows work on unix systems...
but you can always download a free machine emulator,which can run windows xp + linux at the same time.

I wouldnt recomend SuSE (although I do like it) or Fedora Core because they use RPM package managment - and that sucks..... I honostly prefer Ubuntu's Debian package management.... also RPM based distros tend to be bloated and run like crap - plus Ubuntu has the best hardware support out of all the distros <--- Trust me, you will not be mad if you go with Ubuntu

yes, linux distributions come with a bootmanager (you can select different kernels or runlevel or also different os on boot time), btw i suggest you to first install windows, let some empty place on your hd and than install linux.
instaling driver for linux isn't realy a job, all drivers are included into the kernel or comes as modules, in rare cases (too new or exotic hardware) you have to search, download and install a driver.
here a linux setup (workstation) needs 25 minutes (inclusive network and hw configuration, btw if you never worked with linux may you need some hours ;-)) under xp i need 40 minutes to search and download latest drivers and have to reboot 7 times + the xp setup time (can't remember, think was 30 min.)

you boot with linux and make your configuration, your windows installation will be untouched. linux is linux
and windows is windows. if you reboot your computer and select windows from the boot menue it will be in the same configuration with the same drivers as before

not all bots but most work on linux too (quick and dirty test result xsquirrel ver. 3.7.4 works 3.8 don't antiaasa works no recoil works perfectbot works kr4zy bot works ...)
it exist a little helper script for loading bots on linux (search for linux loader on this board)
usage of rpm ist the same philosophy that the usage of windows or linux or redhat or debian or an other distribution. you can allways download the source of any prog and compile it for your self or make rpm or deb packages.
and yes, if you use drivers with write access to ntfs (xp partitions) under linux, windows have to replay the journal log of the file system on the next reboot (some kind of checkdisk), there are some other limitations too depends on what methode u use.
unmouning of partitions made on shutdown or reboot automaticaly (unless you messed around with things what you don't understand, or u just switch power off this is what no os like ;-) )
Filb
24th January 2006, 09:01
mmh...
I don't prefer the loader...........
Y can also do the same as y did with the Proccess Killer.exe Tool included in some bots.
Set the owningship of your User.ini to root
Then remove everything you included there for your bot(the autload)
Replace the bot with its original map....
here you go....
but pb detects it..........

not all bots but most work on linux too
all .u bots are working in Linux, if they provided in .u format and not .dll crap.
any .u bot can be hided in file system by changing path in armyops.ini and any .u bot can bypass cvar checks if names of classes chaged accrodingly.
devmode scripts (= changed variables in unreal/aa classes) work staright away;
they are no cvar checks on us army official servers (not leased). cvar checks run on leased servers on peridic basis only, so it is possible for example, switch to perfect accuracy and norecoil variables, fire weapon and then restore variables back.
all .u files are the same format in linux and vindos, so offsets are the same.
md5checks can be bypassed by editing pbcl.so (and I think it could be more possibilities like hack guid, if we de-assemble pbcl and pbsv files).
Thus I run modified maps on official servers (no fog, or no vegetation, or cross-dressed opfor).
mac address changed in one line by standard ifconfig command.
linux does not allow to read hardware serial numbers without permissions;
likely pb use so-called rootkit to hijack admin priviliges like Sony music CDs do;
though it does not work in linux in unlikely event if linux user bought a Sony music CD.
FPS improved by 30-50% compared to vindos - I actually benchmarked it.
what else do you neeed?

anyways here a little warning as soon as you get AA installed on your linux pc
