I'm not saying this is true for you, but alot of nasty viruses do this along the line to attempt you to identifying it right away, confirm your logged in as the administrator on your PC, if you are, I suggest you running hijack this, and post your log in the technical support forum where C-X linked

ahh man good luck, once you identify the hazardous script files i'd suggest googling it and finding the best and most safe way of removing it, sometimes people build special tools JUST FOR a certain type of virus so it will clean it 100% if it's a known variant of course..
any idea how you got it?

no idea how i got it. last thing downloaded was rapids aaom on the net i know its fine. but i think it may have come through limewire or shareaza which i have on my computer cos p2p is a breeding ground for viruses.

Listed in this thread are some useful tuts to help remove some infections and their programs;
http://www.mpcforum.com/showthread.php?t=106493
Also, you might want to run a full system scan with an online scanner like http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
If both regedit and task manager were disabled than that would more than likely to point to some form of malware infection. Spyware Doctor isn't really designed to detect viruses and trojans etc it is a spyware scanner.
Feel free to post the hijackthis log, but wait for confimation before doing anything.

Make sure that you have removed it's entry from Start-up by either using MSCONFIG or CCleaner's advanced tools section.
