Set r novis?

Ive been told set r novis is bad because it can be decteced by anticheat programs. What does this command actually do? Do i need it? In the game when im sniping i keep getting sniped by this guy in the window. He leans out shoots and leans back in. Im looking directly at him and i didnt even see him.WTF??? Can set r novis cure this?

r_novis makes the game draw behind doors and in closed in areas. he was probably using 3rd person because leaning doesnt affect your line of sight or fire, so you can lean behind something, but shoot as if you arent leaning.
