There is an interesting article on Ars Technica that demonstrated how to access he new search page Google is planning to roll out in the near future. Ars Technica points out that "the changes are minimal, but they give some insight into Google's plans". Overall interesting read quite cool to see the new Google result page.

they changed the layout of the image bar etc.it was on top now it's on the left and it has bars showing how common the search is in terms of images, news, etc.

What? Ive seen that before somewhere.. i used it somewhere? Maybe google extension 4 firefox or google labs or something but ive definately seen that layout on google before, didnt like it and took off whatever i put on that was doing it. Cant remember what it was though :x

they usually test with random people, like 1 out of every 10000 or something will get the new layout, maybe you were one of those random people once.
