Lucent, the company behind MPEG2, has filed a lawsuit against Microsoft for their use of the MPEG2 decoder in the X-Box 360.

Lucent claims that Microsoft violated several patent laws in the use of the MPEG2 decoder in the X-Box 360. They are currently demanding that all X-Box 360's be pulled from the market.

This is not the first time Lucent tried to sue Microsoft for this; however, their first attempt was dismissed because of a technicality.

this is more of a publicity stunt than actually an attempt to get something from MS. Lucent basically just wants some news coverage and media attention.

First netscape and now this. When will microsoft learn that stealing is bad and can cause lawsuits for billions of dolllars.

well yeah, plus I thought you guys might enjoy some other interesting news except stuff that is going on at MPC

I mean I read a bunch of articles daily (mostly because I have to to keep me up to date with security issues and stuff like that) and sometimes I find interesting articles that I think you guys might find interesting so... might as well post em here IMHO

Slashdot, Digg, Fark, Engadget? add to that hardOCP, NewOrder, WindowsSecurity, and onLamp.

Plus I also subscribe to a bunch of daily security mailing lists :x

basically it takes me about 4 hours to read through all this stuff, granted I rarely have the time to do that so I usually just glance through them and only read the articles that I think sound interesting/important.
