In light of the recent defacement we have decided to store backups remotely on a seperate backup server. This takes a bit longer than our regular backups; therefore, you may notice that MPC might be unavailable for about 30 mins per day.
We will figure out the best time to make these backups so that less users are affected by them but please be patient while we work out the bugs in this new backup system.
We'll also try and speed up the process but no guarantees on whether or not this will be possible.
Thank you.

you can get a backup script that automatically makes a backup and sends it to your email or a remote ftp server like at 3am with cron jobs

like at 3am yeah but people from all countries go here so 3AM wouldnt be a good time everywhere which is why he said he has to work it out. The script may be useful though ;)

yup script would be good but USA peeps, which is quite a lot, come on at that time (3am if you are talking GMT)
is it possible for admins/tech staff to monitor when the forums are least busy and then use that time slot

You guys should really read posts more carefully, I said the backups will be automatically sent to a remote backup server, and I said we'll be working out a time when there are least ammount of people on, so I thought you guys would assume that I meant that the backups will be made automatically based on a cron job :x

there was an OR in the sentence , remote ftp OR email, and when you backup there usually isnt downtime

yes usually there isn't especially if I use my own shell script for that but since I'm a lazy bastard I'm just using the default plesk backup utility and plesk takes the domain down while it's backing up to make sure there is no data corruption (plesk is a pussy :P xD)
