If anyone here is interested in learning how to develop and make games MSDN has a 10 part video tutorial up right now which guides you through making a simple 3d game using C#.
All the tools used in the tutorial are freely available and the tutorial explains everything pretty clearly.
Each of the ten parts is about 30 minutes in length and they can be downloaded for later viewing.
Granted this tutorial doesn't really cover the basics of programming but it's still a good place to start if you are interested in game development. All the other information that is glossed over is easily obtainable and most of the time the tutorial will even tell you where you can read up more on the subject.
Watch the tutorials here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/coding4fun/gamedevelopment/rocketcmd/default.aspx

sounds good, might have to leave comp on overnight to download them all, is c# good for hacking, e.g. changing textures, making walls transparent etc

apparently C# is really bad, difficult to use and stuff. According to the poll in the polls section anyway.. So i cba 2 learn it if its not good lol

sounds good, might have to leave comp on overnight to download them all, is c# good for hacking, e.g. changing textures, making walls transparent etcC# is not really used to make wallhacks, it is too high level for that, you usually need something more low level like C++, C or even ASM
apparently C# is really bad, difficult to use and stuff. According to the poll in the polls section anyway.. So i cba 2 learn it if its not good lolC# does suck, correct, yet at the same time it is based off of the C++ syntax. It does not really matter if the language sucks or not if the syntax is common, you will learn C# but at the same time you will learn enough syntax and programming logic to understand almost any other programming langauge.
i heard, not sure if its ture, that perl was good for tht kind of stuff but really complex and complicated. in dunno cuz i only use HTML and the stuff to script for css whatever its called (maybe crapalias i think it wasa)Perl is a language made maily for text manipulation and crunching numbers. It cannot really be used for games, especially complex ones. Perl is more of a scripting language than a programming language.

awesome, thanks luck. definately beats darkbasic and all those other "game scripting engines"... c++ with opengl is still my favorite though

Is it me or this just another method for M$ to find coders and increase their share of the games market. Must be just a cynic.
Still it's nice to see them try and change their image - even if it somwhow seems to help them.

well it probably does benefit them, but still it also helps alot of programmers who want to get into the field but don't know where to start so.... it's a win-win situation

C# is a ripoff of java
well, not exactly but they stole some aspects
and since i don't like java either
C# sucks..
i learned it though, but i hate the whole .NET framework.. stick with native

err.. n00by question, so C# is Object Orientated?
luck777jojo
25th April 2006, 06:51
yes C# is Microsoft's try to keep up with Java. Java is object oriented and thus so is C#
