Well not quite that but.... yeah, Apple has developped a new technology which allows monitors to serve as web cam at the same time as being a monitor.

The screen uses thousands of tiny image capture devices in between the LCD cells to capture images, the images are then combined to form one big image using software.

It's a cool idea but with webcam hacks freely available to turn on a webcam connected to a computer remotely this seems like a bother to me. Though it might be cool if some hot chicks get a bunch of these new apple monitors. Thanks Steve Jobs you're always thinking about the nerd down in the basement, don't wanna leave them with blue-ball syndrome ;)

I've seen some of those force webcam enablers for yahoo, they were very easy to construct and use, no doubt in my mind this technology will be exploited and marketed

Great idea indeed. Too bad there isn't a working prototype yet and that it's only an idea for now, but when this is created it will bring a new dimension to videoconferencing.

in USA we have some sorta idea patent, but yeah most of the time you need to include full list of materials and a bunch of sketches of your prototype ( i know i tried to get something patented about 7 years ago after I got second place in my school invention convention competetion ( got beat by some douche bag that made a " super easy " auto bed maker ) )

dunno the rules on that in russia.

dunno the rules on that in russia.the patent is being filed for in the US, I only used russia in the title to fit with the whole "in communist russia road forks you" thing

If people are so bothered about the screen, caveat emptor... They can choose not to buy it.

complete waste of time in my opinion, they already have screens with a tiny little black hole with a camera in at the top... and that is hardly noticable, whats the point in this? its clever but is really just replacing something that is very good to begin with.... plus how much is it going to cost? expensive i bet :D

It will be very expensive, but in a way it will be good to be able to develop future products.. Also, imagine in shows, they will be able to record how many people take interest in the visual on the screens ;)
