Dark Blaze

A new kind of malware circulating on the Internet freezes a computer and then asks for a ransom paid through the Western Union Holdings money transfer service.

For everyone reading, make sure you keep your virus definitions on your anti-virus software up to date and never accept files from people unknown to you. More so, do not download files from websites you find suspicious. Follow that line of thinking and you should be safe from this new virus.

hthis is rather old news isn't it DB? Maybe it's a new one though cause I remember reading about trojans holding your computer ransom for money a few months back already :x
Still interesting post best way to fix trojans is not to get em in the first place ;)
Plus a full format usually helps so..... make sure to have backups so you don't loose anything even if you have to format

Wouldnt the officials be able to find out to whom the money is being tranferred to and be able to catch the culprit/maker/inventor/criminal?

Lol...Western Union tracks all the money transfers so i think you can block or ask refund of the money.
That's if you are smart of course ;x.
Thanks for the heads up.

if you're smart you wouldn't install this trojan to begin with would ya ;)

obviously... if you did you were probably looking for either pr0n, warez (i know that they're not allowed to be discussed but i don't think that counts) or some form of file sharing

I agree.. unless you have brothers and sisters who are n00bs and do things on your computer.. mmmm... or kids.. or friends... but then again, i think everyone in here locks up their computer in vaults -.-

Well, this particular news is new as it is a new kind of trojan holding your computer ransom. Before it would be encrypting files or such, now it is trying for something else that might get you to pay.
No one really wants to be formatting their system at any time and besides, from experience I think you know as well as I do that the people around us don't really look much into backing up ;)
As you say, the best fix is to not get them in the first place ;)

You're welcome :)
Yes, it is a new trend that hopefully will find a stop in it before long.

Yeah, I thought it was about time someone broke the posting spree luck was doing here cause I love writing for news as well but I mostly do it on Innovation, my personal site (http://darkblaze.mpcdownloads.com/blog).
I wonder if you clicked on the "» » Read more of the story by clicking here (http://darkblaze.mpcdownloads.com/blog/?p=34) « «" if you are asking how much it demands for ransom, cause I wrote how much there lol.
Anyway, it asks for $10.99 lol. Sounds like a bargain you'd find in a shop!
Remember guys, never accept files from people you don't know! Unless it's me and I'm bringing you a gift lol ;)

No, no room for small talk. It's a $10.99 deal and apparently it's a take it or lose it situation. I'm thinking if they are smart and do all that with an offshore account bank that keeps private information private, such as Kaiman Islands or Swiss Bank, then they wouldn't get caught... However, they're not smart if they are doing all the things you see. Emails can be traced, accessed by the goverment (with a subpoena) and thus forth. Annoy the right people and you will get caught. So they better hope for instance the head of FBI, George W. Bush (USA President) or Bill Gates do not catch the virus through... innocent ways... ;)
Wouldnt the officials be able to find out to whom the money is being tranferred to and be able to catch the culprit/maker/inventor/criminal?
Possible as long as there are traces to follow, emails, Western Union gets pressured into releasing the information and such...
To use Western Union you need to provide passport, National ID, House Water/Gas/Electricity bills, etc to be able to use it. It's like whoever is doing this is asking for it... lol...
but maybe they leave a message saying if u report 2 the police we will blow up ur HD
LOL, no one in their right mind would believe that, unless they have one of those new Apple Monitors that luck was talking about earlier in another thread of his where the monitor is the camera! lol :D

Bill Gates... lol, they could charge like 1 billion dollars, but he would probably pwn their ass with a virus that puts a message on the screen and if you look at it you die :D
LOL.. Gee, thanks Conker, now how am I supposed to carry on running my business?
business... lol :P it was too illegal to be considered a business :P

Yeah, unfortunately to say, I'm sure. :)
The black market is illegal like -CottonMouth66- says, yet it's become a proper business. Some even go to the extent of not only ripping the products of a company, but the company itself!

Thank you very much for your comment Conker, I appreciate it :)
I'm into minimalism a lot so sorry about the font :)
Hold Control on the keyboard and use the scroll wheel to increase the font size ;)
Welcome to my world Conker ;)
You can get dark fire. Imagine a very hot fire, imagine it turning bright blue, look at its cutting edges, you will see it very dark blue, at its very edge even pitch black.
Now come to think of it as a force. It resembles an unrelenting entity that is consistent, unchangeable, reliable. Being near it makes you feel safe even though you know it is dangerous if you try to get closer. It gives you light in the shadows and keeps enemies at bay, protecting you. It is gentle, elegant, but with the slight disturbance it becomes wild and perilous.
I think it describes me perfectly :)

While we talking about the new trojan on the net...
I'm getting for almost a half-year (maybe longer) annoyed by ErrorSafe advertisements on the internet, they are everywhere (even mpcforum has it), they come up a few seconds later after I clicked on a link, or change from site.
I'm wondering why nobody here on the world takes action about this stupid thing and remove this popup from www, because the makers of this scamware did made a well job to spread it so far on the internet. Even if you click on the "Cancel" button, it will load up a maximized popup to the home page of errorsafe and ask install ActiveX contol on ur computer.
Or are we the only one in our region who have it? :S

^^ sounds similar to the winfixer ad... if it comes up on lots of sites for you, then you are probably infected with something that is making the ads appear (probably some form of exploit) i recommend you use ad aware se personal available from www.lavasoft.com and run that and see if it finds anything

If the video card heats up a lot, and trust me those things can really burn if they heat up, the plastic (the actual plate itself in other words) literally melts from the heat. That's why we have fans in our systems and a lot of people have coolers as well, or hydro/aero/crazio cooling. Btw, for those wondering, crazio = crazy peeps with liquid hydrogen or such. ;)

ya kaspersky is good. i think its bullcrap that you have to pay for the download then pay for a cd if you want one. anyways someone wrote about president bush and bill gates getting attacked from this trojan or whatever you want to call it. first off bush can barely run the country right now, what makes you think he can even turn on a pc? and what if bill gates runs mac instead of xp or something?
