get adobe photoshop, it costs a pretty penny but it's well worth it, also you might want to get lightwave or 3d studiomax they're pretty good for 3d design.

i have adobe photshop and paint shop pro.. but lightvawe is too expensive for me :)

26th March 2003, 00:21
I use photoshop and 3dsmax and maybe lightwave all at the same time ....depends. Too bad I cant have a signature here...but 90% of it would be hand drawn anyway, because that's what I do. My old avatar was 100% 3dsmax.

Photoshop is industry standard I know for sure. Avatars are easy its just getting the idea and picking which one is the better one that is hard.

luck777jojo
26th March 2003, 03:57
getting an idea is the hardest part, making something isn't even as hard as getting the first idea IMHO.

Machiko
26th March 2003, 04:01
well you have ideas lucky, apparently by your avatar. You change that by your mood i think. Maybe I am wrong. So if i see a violent storm pic, i'll know youre in a bad bad mood.

I have too many ideas myself. If only we were allowed signatures here, I crank out stacks of drawings a day coupled with some little 3dsmax and then finally photoshop...

yeah well the thing I was talking about (perhaps some of you know it, maybe you do Machiko) is having to do something when on a deadline... that is usually when it's really hard to find ideas, I dunno why but when I have to do something like that my mind kinda goes blank. But yeah I guess when making an avart most people don't hurry to make on, I for one only change it when I got an idea for a new one, I don't just change it on a set time (BTW I like landscapes that's why most of my avarts have been landscapes lately.... maybe I'll do a different one next time :p )

Machiko

i know deadlines yes, and I am my own boss but even though I have that luxary, I have this little voice in my head that puts pressure on me to get things done on time. I also draw / model/ write and record songs today for what I will need 2-4 months from now. I have so much. If someone asks me for something and I like them, I usually have something done already I can give up or use as a base for what they want in a short amount of time. You see me though on the board alot as I work on coloring my stuff and work in max to all hours while refreshing here to keep an eye out.

I do like landscapes too. Nice stuff. too bad you cant show it any larger.

luck777jojo
26th March 2003, 04:57
heh yeah well you're lucky... I can't be my own boss, my boss is the company that request my services... they tell me when they want something done and I try to get it done by that time or sooner and maybe get a bonus for that.... if it takes me longer then I loose proffit because I gotta lower the price to compensate for the extra time. Oh and BTW I do have alot of those landscapes in 640x480 and higher resolutiong (higher resolutions for the ones I like more ;) ), it's just that I can't use an 800x600 pic for my avart that would be crazy if people could do that :p

THINK OF THE LOADING TIME if that was possible! OMFG!

Machiko
26th March 2003, 05:02
ya I am lucky i get to do what I want. I guess I should appreciate that more then I do when I go bitching about life. heh. Thanks for the reminder and wake up.

the hardest part is finding the idea , imagination is really important and i have no imagination lol :) but i have some good logos made by myself ..

DarkCloud
26th March 2003, 16:20
That reminds me when imagineers were actually an existing job! lol

But imagination is something we all really need to succeed in today's job market.

Given the right resources and enough time, I'm pretty sure I would dish out a lot of stuff.

There are a lot of great people with unbelievable and limitless imagination, but their only limitation is their resources which seems to bog down their imagination and dumb them down. I believe I fall in that category.

if you dont do at least 3 truely creative unique things in your life all different as well (your own not someone elses work), i dont think youll make it. Sure tons of people dont...and make it but do i call them artists or truely creative? nah Plus i dont mean make it as in money, thats nice but that isnt why I do what I do.

DarkCloud
27th March 2003, 07:58
I probably make works of art and great pieces for resources.

I'm pretty sure there would be plenty of artists that would love to work for a person who gives them limitless resources and ample time to completion.

Hell, I used to work for the city for bare minimum wage along with the limitless resources they gave me. That has been my best job ever!

well here's my list(of major things - not the other stuff). I do martial arts/archery, i consider that an art form. I draw and color and write (manga stuff working on my own book) have a local band that does okay and i play alot of instruments(design the clothing for us too ), i do 3d modelling based on my art or whatever. Maps based on my art or places i take pics of. I dont know in japan things were different i come here and for instance in the art industry, i see in batman issue 613 -3 people took to make 24 pages a month loeb, lee, williams. In japan masamune shirow does all the writing art, color himself and its 42 pages 2 times a month. Same with yukito kishiro...so ya i leanred to do many things at once by myself. I dont really like working with others when i have all the stuff i need and a different work ethic then other artists doing the same things as me. Nothing wrong with a team though, i love a few american comics, just saying how I work and doing multiple things way in advance too is a bonus.
Im a really ambitious person i guess and grew up where i was pushed to do all the things I said . Just how it was.

Hay machiko do you have any music from yer band posted somewhere?

Machiko
30th March 2003, 17:45
no sorry, especially posting on here wouldnt be smart of me - this board isnt for goth or music or goth, or goth. PM me ask me, get to know me, you will hear. I had a show last night if you lived in same state as me (you dont), you could have come seen me if you are 21 and over.

Also u seroiusly trying to be a lawyer luck? Thats cool. My stepdads an attorney. He gets stressed alot because of all the work but I guess its really satisfying.

As for me Im still not sure what i want to do professionally. Im one of those people that has had alot of huge expectaitons from alot of peole placed on them at an early age. Seems like it may be hard to live up to eveyones idea of what they think your "supposed" to be. Right now im studying business in college and have a salesman job. I also have done alot of locally acclaimed art and writing but no truly outstanding accomplishments. Im thinking about starting a band myself to blow of some steam. But even if I dont ever accomplish outstanding ill always have my creativity as an outlet for comfort and expression. Also i can fart pretty good with my armpits.

I certainly hope you were refering to the shareware versions because its illegal to discuss warez here.

Since you are new here, I will give you a verbal warning not to discuss warez in MPC. Please be more careful next time. But I will give you two hours to change your message before I issue the warning.

They weren't warez. The PS link was to a 30 day free trial, and the other one, as he/she said, was a trial.

I bought new photoshop for about $170.00 so its not what most peole would call cheap...But its worth it whatever way you can get it.

DarkCloud
2nd April 2003, 20:55
I suppose it is worth it if you're in the design and graphics industry. But then again, 170 doesn't seem so bad with graphics jobs paying atleast 60 an hour. So three hours and you'll already have earned more than what photoshop would cost.

Machiko
3rd April 2003, 01:25
170 is good the program is excellent. You said you draw if i remember correctly, well many if not most to all of the major studios color with it. If the high profile conception artists for Lucasarts (the film material) use this.If you go that big thick ass episode 2 book which is an excellent example of some great artists people like doug chiang use it. I could name 100000 companies, liquid one of the foremost in the ameircan region. Have fun with it.

$170 dollars.... that's cheap, extremely cheap, the latest version of photoshop (7) sells for over $500 where I live. I kinda still use 6.0 because I'm too cheap to get the newest version.

For 3d design I used long time rhino 3d but is more for mechanical... design

If you like something nore artistic, 3d max and truspace are better.

I also discovered that last version of 3D cinema XL is very good
