With the web turning 15 years old (I know it’s been around for longer but it’s 15 popular years I’m talking about) The Observer has an article about the 15 most influential websites as they see them.
A lot of known sites such as Amazon.com and eBay are included in the list.
Hard to call this news really fun but and interesting read nevertheless.

What is napster.com? Never heard of it.Napster is an online music service which was originally a file sharing service created by Shawn Fanning. Napster was the first widely-used peer-to-peer music sharing service, and it made a major impact on how people, especially college students, used the Internet. Its technology allowed music fans to easily share MP3 format song files with each other, thus leading to the music industry's accusations of massive copyright violations. ...
Interesting article, I didnt know google was only founded in 1998 :x Cant believe that youtube is at number 4 :tired: and myspace at number 8..

When the internet very first came out, there was no need for search engines as there were not that many websites out there. First they were closely held so only approved ones existed and then the internet went public and people all over the world with internet access could make a website with the necessary knowledge and so came the need for search engines.
