As most of you have probably heard there were some leaked or rather “released” AOL search logs a while ago. AOL said that they released the logs to be used for educational purposes, which I am assuming means for universities and colleges to use as a learning tool for either log analysis or social studies.
Now there were no names published but it turns out that the account numbers published with each search can easily be decoded into the user’s name. This news made AOL take down the logs but not before some copies of the logs were downloaded and started spreading on the net.
In this article the author analysis the logs and breaks all the searches down into 7 categories of users: the Pornhound, the Manhunter, the Shopper, the Obsessive, the Omnivore, the Newbie, and the Basketcase.
Read the article and figure out which one you are.

So do all ISP companies record everything we search for?I pretty believe they can control everything we do, since all the data transferring pass through their ****ing "boxes".

most of them will surrender your comings and goings if asked by law enforcement, specially here in USA....
spyware also does this most of the time.

It's annoying how they feel they can take hold of everything that has to do with people using their internet services...

I don't have too much of an objection to ISPs monitoring 'net use, it has helped to capture many paedophiles and find some missing children. My biggest problem is when they release logs to the RIAA so they can sue some teenage kid for downloading a few music tracks.
In regards to the story, it was very foolish of AOL to do such a thing. There was absolutley no reason for them to release logs like that even if for educational means, especially without prior constant from the customers. You can find what ppl search for by using google's tools and other search engines 'top ten' searches.
