View Full Version : Another crazy rant about gamers

An article on gamepolitics.com details a rant by Bill O'Reilly (http://gamepolitics.com/2006/11/18/bill-oreilly-slams-playstation-3-launch-gamers-ipods-tech-not-in-that-order/) where he had some harsh remarks towards gamers, iPod users, and the PS3. Basically he was spewing some bull about gamers saying that they’re all the drug addicts and alcoholics of today, escaping reality by buying a machine.
He went on to say that gamers don’t know anything at all about real life or reality and that they are all going to fail in their lives, and commenting on how it is impossible to talk to “these computer geeks”.
The climax of this whole mad man rant is probably when O’Reilly says that gamers are going to be responsible for the downfall of American society and that all the evils in America today are from gamers.

While personally I might not approve of people getting shot for a PS3 or of some people going around with an iPod and singing (most likely actually believing that they have some sort of talent, which is usually not the case), I still cannot see how he can go on like this about gamers. And then mixing computer geeks together with gamers, how the hell is that possible at all. Gamers are one thing, computer geeks are a completely different thing.
That leads me to my next point, he probably could not talk to “these computer geeks” because he didn’t understand what the hell they were talking about, that doesn’t actually mean that computer geeks are impossible to talk to, it just means he’s computer illiterate, or at the very least he tried to talk to a “computer geek” about something too advanced for his computer knowledge.

I hate how the media in the US is starting to picture gamers, they’re not anti-social, they’re not worthless, they’re not immature, or homicidal.
Violent crime rates did not rise in the US as the popularity of games increased, in fact violent crime rates have been dropping the more popular gaming is getting.
I game but I am majoring in law, then again, maybe that’s what he mean, lawyers and politicians are useless, that’s why in turn gamers are useless. Who knows maybe he’s a lot more deep than I give him credit for.

Why would he play a computer game if he can do it in real life?

The problem is that they are Christians. Video Games are the devil and they are out there to rid the world of the devil.

Personally, I can't stand *******s that try to get rid of my rights for the good of their religion. I don't give a shit what your religion says, and if I did follow your religion, I still would not give a shit. Go lockdown your kids instead of America's.

Another cracker jack washed out celeb....(if you wold even call him one) is just seeking some attention. Awwww how nice of him to put two completely different things and place them in the same category....gamers are those that play games...computer geeks are those with a vast knowledge of the pc....not seeing the two related.

Only a retard would emulate what they see in a game in real life....which is rarely 1% of total gamers. Im just sick of these old retarded clueless apes constant ranting on matters were they unintellegent remarks have no use for society.

Games are not what makes me mad. It's ignorant people like O'Reilly who lack an education that makes me mad. Good thing nobody listens to his conservative BS seriously other than right wing morons who believe anything that comes from Fox News.

Omg how can he put geeks n gamers in the SAME catagory? WTF!

Geeks are impossible to talk to? lmfao. That just proves his level of intelligence.

And gamers are anti-social? No, I know alot of gamers that became gamers BECAUSE they are anti-social. and yes maybe its the wrong way to deal with it but that's not the point. The point is this guys an *****t.

And gamers are gonna be responsible for this American society downfall? aha. I think its the American society itself. People like him. and presidents like Hitl... I mean Bush.

If anything... games are keeping people out of trouble. I mean, i used to have no PC, no PS3, no PSp, no PS2, and no PSx.. and I was out getting in trouble like no tomarrow.. Now I cant wait to get home from work to get some head, beer, and frags in before bed. Shit, id rather play a damn game then go out to the bar with the birtch.

Like someone else said... Im so ****king tired of these old computer/technology illiterate folks bitchingg because the technology grows faster than their boners. Shit, i'd be pissed if I didnt have DirectX10 as a kid too.

lol u watch too much tv... that never happens in real life

Ontopic= Well obviously this guy is a dumb ass. Without video games, well that brings us back to the stone age. This guy is obviously on crack and he thinks he's still in the 50's. And yes, computer "geeks" are people who actually learn things about computer, and how to use it more efficiently. Computer gamers mostly waste their time just to play games. Complete difference. In conclusion, this shit bag, Piece O'Crap, is a complete douchebag.

While I enjoy blowing a headshot into a lifelike model rendered by complex graphics engines, I very seriously doubt me, or my friends are going to blow a hole into the head of an enemy, or another person.

With all cases where gamers have gone mad, it has nothing to do with the games. It has everything to do with problems in their life. It takes a lot of balls to kill someone. It's just like lying for the first time. You think about it...then finally you get the courage to do it. Killing is the same way. It takes balls. Games aren't capable of giving someone the balls to kill.

So, I'll keep killing other gamers(metaphorically of course), and killing pigheaded people in my mind.(or make a model for my favorite game, and make them the enemy >:))

Yes, and there are over 90 million of them in the United States, who now go and vote in record numbers!

Some of you may enjoy this article: http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=bill_oreilly (it is a satire of O'Reilly's show).

Actually this has nothing to do with conservative bs, that his own stupid ass opinion, this is more coming from the left wing side more than the right wing.

What he said is stile stupid bullshit that has nothing to do with what hes talking about, How many people do you see playing GTA go out stealing cars running over people the next day?

Bill O'Reilly constantly tries to get people to hear him over his opinion regardless of how extravagant it may be.

All he is doing is taking a few key facts from actual situations in life that are taking place with gamers and expanding them and diversifying them enough to have his own agenda resonated towards games.

There will always be a few people who choose to follow him because of circumstances that they are experiencing which only help to enforce even further what he is saying is true. Parents trying to get their children to get off the computer or game, having to argue over it, students not paying attention to their studies because of games, etc.

You can get various people who are like that, but not everyone. If someone is a gamer and wants to stop playing for some reason, for instance eat a meal, take a break, go out, etc he or she will. Additionally, if they want to take care of their lessons they will limit their gaming.

It’s all about how strong their will is and they can manage their time.

As for Skyline, I think he’s lost his mind if he’s choosing to blame Christians over this… Listen mate, there are different kinds of Christians, just because you’re dealing with some in your hometown that want you to join their cause or whatever and are trying to brainwash you or something, doesn’t mean that they represent all Christian beliefs.

Next time you want to write something tangible and intelligent be sure to get your facts straight and be precise about what you are saying and who are you accusing of something. Don’t just randomly point fingers and cover a broad area on a subject. Get your facts straight first.

Dark Blaze, i acclaim ur opinion. But that is fact, that computer games have influnce on us like television and newspaper. Of cos we can't blame anything for our fault. Anyway it's time to us to be sure what the influnces are.

video games aren't subject to media attention cycles and framing like news and the media are. Video games are video games.
