Questin on dupes

ive heard some myths about dupes i dunno if they true so i thought id ask here

Ive heard that if socket the dupe and put anything in it like a rune or a jewel it keeps it from getting deleted....
is this true?

if not do any of u know ways to keep dupes from getting deleted?
And no i dont know how to dupe, but i have some items that are definately dupes.
