Not a request or anything, but i'm interested if there is anyone out there working on ways to block the in-game ads?
I'm actually pretty surprised there hasn't been more of a reaction (since they started showing them), given the amount of work that goes into blocking the ads on the intrawebs.

Because the aren't intrusive nor do they flash, or give you spyware or adware.

Holz - thanks, tried it and it works without any problems. IMO the ads on the walls are far more annoying because they completely destroy the realism (so do cheats I guess, ther ya go xD). But its a start.

rand0m - true that they are not as intrusive as having some adware sh1t taking over your desktop. But if you want to get an idea of how many people hated them (the wall ads especially) you should have seen the threads on most gaming forums, the stuff players were saying in the game, etc.

There is actually a simple way to remove the billboards if you run a server - you extract de_dust from the gcf and rename it something like else, like de_dust_noads. So all a server has to do is run the renamed map, maybe disallow map downloads and put a message in the console that tells players to rename their copy. I first expected at least a few servers to discover this and be running renamed maps, but so far have not ever seen it done.

Probably because people think you're not simply running a de_dust without ads, you're running a modified de_dust.

If you made an announcement on your server forum that that's what you were doing then I guess it would work, for those that actually visit the forum anyway.
