View Full Version : Continuum (Subspace) evading bans.

A few days ago I was banned from the entire SSC* network (netban?). But, on another computer in my house I was able to play again  after a quick IP change.

So, I'm banned again (go me! :rambo: ) from SSC* and I'm trying to figure out what they're doing to ban me because simply changing my IP on my main computer isn't enough, which leads me to think there's a ban file stored somewhere, or they're going on computer names too or SOMETHING extra. :dead: (Of course, I'm using different random subspace accounts each time)

Anyone have a clue how they ban you? It doesn't seem to be IP only.

hardware ban, possibly?

Impossible. That doesn't really exist over the net. There's nothin "they" can see, that you can't change or spoof.

It's just knowing what pieces of identifiable data they're using for the bans...

I found THIS THREAD (http://www.mpcforum.com/showthread.php?t=135351) explaining ban bypassing (thanks to google, it didn't show from the forum search). Anyway it's sounds pretty complicated so lemme see if I've got this straight...

Things netban WILL use to identity you as banned;

Subspace Username
IP address

Both obvious... but changing these isn't enough, so they might also look for...

Registry Keys in place, marking you as Banned.
Windows username
Computer name / Organisation

... and it's fairly unlikely, but very possible that they also use your...

Volume ID
Mac Address (software, not hardware)

Right now I can't think of anything else they'd realistically use without it verging on the edge of invasion of privacy. But as of yet I've not been able to find a completely accurate list of things used in the bans. So I need input!

Ok, it's getting confusing!!!

Things I changed...

Username (SS)
Ownername
Organisation
Volume ID
Windows Username
Other registry keys linked to Continuum

... I did NOT however changed my IP or MAC address.

But I'm no longer getting the "You are banned from the SSC network", and only "You are banned from SSCU Trenchwars"... which is where I received the initial ban.

Why, how... HUH!? This is weird... why would it have knocked off the SSC-wide ban BUT kept me banned to TW? Confusing... but once it's figured out I'll write it in words everyone will understand and explain how to do it easily and quickly!
