View Full Version : Banned from AA Forums

Anyone know how their banning process works on the official forums? It's not IP based because I've tried to connect through AOL and still can't access it. It's not computer name based. My guess is that it's mAC address based. I really don't want to have to buy a new NIC card just to browse the forums, and all the Anonymous web site surfers I've found will only let you view a few pages for free.
Any help would be appreciated.

Damn, even that didn't work. Wonder what their banning is based on.

I was banned from there back in the old days, and I have had 2 computers since and a different isp and location (state-wise) on the last one and they still have me banned apparently.

I find it quite funny that they can ban users more effectively from their forums than from the actual game!!
I'm only guessing here, but maybe they ban using the Internet Explorer product ID (Help > About Internet Explorer)? But if you tired AOL which uses its own explorer, I'm not sure.
As someone above said, try completely clearing out your internet temporary folder and delete all *.tmp files on disk. Then delete all cookies which will mean entering all those old forgotten passwords again... ...
Also check to see if the AA:O website is on your list of restricted sites in your browser security settings.

Barry, what does that smac_1.1.zip do? I followed the link, but it was full of warnings.

It's supposed to change your MAC address (for your ethernet card). In case you need it to log in the game if you're banned.

I got a question off topic kinda but sounded like agood place to ask and get a responce. As far as banning goes. I am a web designer and have my own server. My connection comes into my server and is routed to my other machines here. When I'm playing I assume my servers IP is the one being detected by the AAO server. As far as PB goes... it's supposed ot scan your system for cheats (memory, etc) but which machine woudl it scan? My server or the machine I'm playing on?
Just curious

I'd assume the computer that AAO is running on.. as PB will be intergrated into AAO
