As you may have noticed, the german version of Tf2 is censored. You cannot see "funny" stuff like arms flying around if you bash one guy with the rocket launcher, this makes me sick !

So I heard there is a way to change the files of the low violence version into a high violence one. Has anyone of you experiences with that subject ?

It's always the same, games are release, and us the germans have to play the kindergarden ones, because some kind of jerk of the german gouvernment sais so. Iam an adult, I have the right to see and experience explicit content, no matter in what kind of visual media.

So please help me find a way to bypass/hack/destroy or however get pass the content blocker-thing.
I hope a few of you agree with me.

Doesn't setting the Steam language to English do the job already?

It's file with the name "team fortress 2 low violence.gfc" steam checks for the integraty of the file at startup. Need a way to fake the gcf file check.

Impossible.

Steam uses IP checks to check what country you are in.

Unless you use a proxy, you're screwed.

Well, if there is enough demand by the German TF2 players, and any other countries that are affected, I'm sure someone will release some sort of patch (maybe on fpsbanana). Unfortunately, you'll just have to wait patiently.

edit:
I haven't yet had the chance to play TF2, so I don't know much about it. belink has kindly informed me that valve doesn't load stuff from hl2 folder for TF2, so there wouldn't be any sort of material patch on fpsb. Aside from that, it would apparently be illegal to make or use any sort of patch for removing the censors.

Do I need to get a steam account in order to play the retail version online?
I am planning to buy "The Orange Box" from UK (so it will be uncensored) but I am afraid that the crappy steam will turn it into the "low violence" version.

P.S. Is Episode 2 also crippled for the poor germans?

You need Steam to play the Orange Box.
However i dont know if it depends on where you buy your orange box.

I heard rumors that it doesnt matter where you buy it because Steam checks your IP adress to find out where you live.

It checks my billing address, and I can not fake it, because then the CC transaction will not work. Maybe I have to get a CC from some UK bank :)

Incorrect, you can play Orange Box using a console system, such as Xbox 360.

I was talking about the PC version of the Orange Box and i think everybody here knows that since i never heard of an aimbot etc. for a xbox 360 game.

I bought the retail OrangeBox from amazon.co.uk
It works! No "low violence" sh!t :)

I created a new "clean" Steam account for the Orange Box, so that "Big Brother" can not use my CC information to find out that I am in Germany (just to be sure).

Clearly, you've never heard of No-Steam...
