VAC & Cheating Information Blog
This blog will contain information about;
Steam updates / Cheats / Tutorials / Support
I decided to post this thread because ever since I joined this widespread sommunity many years ago, I have seen thousands of members asking questions constantly and not really understanding the basic concepts required, this blog should hopefully solve a lot of the basic support questions asked on this forum and all other forums for that matter.
VAC Update Information
The last VAC update was on July 22, 2008, below is some information and credits;

Q & A (VAC Updates)!
Q: Does this mean I cannot use any cheats?
A: You should be ok to use any cheats released after the VAC Update, for example you can use any cheat released after the 1st October in this case.
Q: Am I going to be VAC banned?
A: Nobody can tell you if you will be banned or not, however any public cheat used will get you banned eventually if you do not stay ahead of the game and do not fully investigate into what you are using first.
Q: Will my Private cheat get me banned?
A: Private cheats are a bit different and can be classed as safe even after a VAC update, you need to be contacting the author of your cheat, and they will update you if necessary.
Q: If I get banned on CS 1.6 will I get banned on CS Source?
A: No, if you cheat on the HL1 Engine (CS 1.6, DOD, TFC, CZ) you will not be banned on the HL2 Engine (CSS, DODS) and visa versa.

I could waffle on all day about cheats so to save some time please read through the information on this website; Wiki (Cheating) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheating_in_online_games) This information there is very informative and is well worth knowing.
Cheat Support
The major issue with cheats is usage problems, there can be so many reasons why the cheats do not work on your machine, so I will try and cover the major issues here;
1: Video Mode - This is the biggest issue I feel, most cheats that you will ever use require OpenGL to run apart from Source which uses D3D so you don't need to worry. First you should check if your Video Card supports OpenGL by going to the manufacturers website. If it does then please follow these instructions;
* Login to Steam, Run your game, click on Options, then Video & make sure it shows OpenGL as your Renderer or any cheats that require OpenGL will not work (Please see below screenshot).

* Also make sure your Video Card is fully upto date, this can also cause issues.
* Make sure you have the following on your machine; Windows XP SP2, .NET Framework, VB Runtime Environment, DirectX, All latest Microsoft Updates.
* Also see Offsets Archived (http://board.cheat-project.com/showthread.php?t=9562) as sometimes cheats may not work due to a recent offset update.
+ If you have any other problems you can simply place a support thread on these forums, but please follow these guidelines;
+ Make sure you use the search feature to see if your problem has already been resolved, also be informative and show screenshots where applicable for your error as we need atleast some information for our experience to be worthwhile in solving your problems, also read any forum rules before posting.
Brief introduction to VAC
VAC (Valve Anti Cheat) is a solution put in place by Valve that surrounds itself through the popular Steam Network, if you are a user of Steam then you are also a user of their Anti Cheat system. VAC uses several methods to detect if cheats are being used by the user and if caught you will be logged as using a possible infraction and will be permanently banned off all servers. I will not discuss which methods they use as it is not relevant for this blog.

Q & A on VAC;
Q: Does changing my CRC make my cheat VAC proof?
A: This is a hard one to answer as there are two views on this, you should assume that VAC does not log a particular CRC and use that as a detection method, hexxing your cheat will not stop you getting banned.
Q: Are Scripts & Materials detectable?
A: No, you cannot be banned due to using a Script or Material, however you could be banned from the server by HLG or banned from a League for using such modifications.
Trusted Coders / Sites
You will of noticed that when you download a cheat, some Anti-Virus systems pop up as it being a Trojan, this is not allways correct as most cheats are packed to make the file size smaller and more protected, so you will need to look into this before condemning a certain cheat as fake.
There are some websites that you must stay clear of as they are simply known for using Keyloggers & Trojans within their releases, one to mention is Dark Cheats.
Recommended sites for downloading public releases from is MPC Downloads (http://www.mpcforum.com/).
