This is the way how to change cd key without losing mpdata - that means you can use your profile with which you played on cracked servers once you buy original game.
1)Go to Start -> Run -> type in "regedit" adn hit enter
2)Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Activision/Call of Duty 4
http://smaug.cz/cod4/regedit.jpg
4)Change the codkey value to your new cdkey - without dashes.
(Thanks to muiz for figuring out it is this easy)

I'm going to allow this since it works only for those who have bought the game.
For other members, please do not discuss or ask for cracked servers.

I only changed it in my register, and it worked fine.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Activision\Call of Duty 4]
"codkey"="XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX"
xxx = your key

Did it? I will test it... it's quite possible that it's simple as that ... Thanks

3)In Hex editor select search (magnifying glass) and type in beginning of your old cdkey - or click on GoTo button and type in 723B64, it should find your cdkey splitted to two rows.

I hope this CDkey on your screen isn't the original CDkey that you bought with game......

There's a far easier way to change the key!
Load the game, and in options use the Change Key Code thingy on the right.
There, you can change the key and keep the stats. Easier, no? No need for TSearch and memory editing.

Well, good for you. The stats are supposed to reset when you change CD-key as they are supposed to be bound to one CD-key. That's what developers say...
Now I wonder if the thing about reseting your stats when trying to change the mpdata file isn't bullshit too... ^^

Yeah but on the other side whenever I change cdkey I got my stats reset. Maybe it has something to do with generated/original keys? I used generated so far, I should have original game next week.

Well I changed mine many times, and never lost my stats.
Maybe I was lucky. I will not change it again incase this MAY reset my stats. Im not going to risk it.

Well, if you use "keygenned" keys or make up stuff, then don't be surprised you can't connect to legit servers. That's what the "key in use" error is about.

yeah I searched around and all the key changer instructions I found say you can only change key before gameplay not during.

Yes, use Easy Account. It's at the top of this section and includes instructions.

...A playerstats.txt file should be generated if you followed the instructions for Easy Transfer correctly.

BlackDove

It creates the playerstats.txt file in the same folder as Easy Account. This is stated in the directions...
If you're having questions about Easy Account, no need to post in this thread any more.
