Materials VAC question

sorry if i may be asking a stupid question, but i tried to search the forums for a while and didnt find an answer.

Are materials completely legal to use on TF2?
I dont mean "undetected", i mean "authorized by Valve" :)

I would like a few modifications on the UI, basically a crosshair for un-scoped sniper rifle, and removal of the black zone of the scoped rifle.

Although i would very like these mods, and i found them on this forum, i also would like to be completely sure that these modification are legal to use, and will not get me banned.

Also, i read something about having to enable sv_cheats in the game, but i do not know what it does, or if i can do it in normal VAC protected servers.
Can anyone give me more info about this sv_cheats?

I also read that sometimes, someone says that crosshair mods and such, will not work in due time. Is it because of the new sv_pure? Will that cvar also block crosshairs/no-scope?

Yes, pure material cheats (textures, materials, sounds, scripts, et cetera) are completely legal and therefore safe to use.
Worst that can happen is that they don't work (anymore).

For the first one your could for example make/use a "crosshair hud" like JAvEX posted one for Counter-Strike: Source.

The second one depends on whether it's possible in TF2 (I myself have only had a quick look at it, sorry) and if the file(s) to edit are being checked for consistency (if enabled) and what exactly.

sv_cheats basically is a server variable which tells whether cheats are allowed or not on the server.
But "cheats" only includes as cheats flagged cvars such as mat_wireframe or give, no client hooks.

You cannot change that variable on the server but you can illegally change it on your client which will allow you to use clientsided cheat-cvars.

Pure mode can "block" these kinds of things, yes.

I'm not (able to) go(ing) into detail now, though.

Bonerfive, you are the biggest noob ever. Just because the hacks aren't working for you doesn't mean that no one else has it working.
I've seen bonerfive on myg0t forums and he is such a noob beggar for tf2 hacks. If you don't know how to get the hacks to work, don't hack. Simple. Don't tell everyone else that the hack isn't going to work you noob.

Material hacks work fine for nearly everyone except the exception which is probably you bonerfive. I suggest you reinstall tf2 and make sure you follow the README in the rars.

Alternatively you could just not hack, and get good legit.
