I know a few languages...but...how exactly do I formulate forums? Does anyone know of a tutorial I can use? I don't wanna use any type of programs that make them for me, I want to know how to script them.

getting the vbulletin from vbulletin.com is a very expensive way to go. I suggest getting a host that gives you the option of using power board by invision. There are a lot of cheap European hosters (blueyonder) that will give you that option. It requires switching hosts, but is much less expensive in the short term and long term as well. Invision power boards are not as common as vBulletin, but they are just as good in most aspects.

Why on earth would that be breaking the rules anyway? And to sum it up, phpBB2 is free and is just as good as those expensive forums. http://www.phpbb.com/

But as you want to know how to make them, I suggest learning and using php with MySQL. These two technologies are free and are very powerful and popular, not sure about any tutorials though, looking at the source couldnt hurt though

sauce... it just seems like i get in trouble for everything that comes out of my mouth.. i just want any mods reading to know that its not illegal, so they dont read 1/2 my post and give me another 8 points to put me over.

I had never heard of phpBB2 before, but I guess its OK. It doesnt seem as powerfull as the other two i mentioned... it may seem the same to the user of the board, but for the admin, its not. Also.. i didnt see any pretty pictures (themes) for the phpbb.

Themes are in the download section, and I believe phpBB 2 is based on vBulletin because they look alike.

Of course, making your own theme is the way to go, and if everyone used the same theme, life would be very dull ;)

Actually phpbb is better than vbulletin in my opinion.

I stand corrected, someone else said phpBB is weak

i know why i am so confused!! This post is in 2 places!!... oh i feel stupid

There are not as many options for the server in phpBB as vBB. And not as many options for vBB as Invision (though they are practically the same).

It is just a matter of how much freedom you have... there is nothing wrong with phpBB, sorry if I offended you.
