View Full Version : We've probably asked the question...

Jexah here, long time leecher and sharer of MPC Forums, but I have encountered a lot of problems with my previous accounts, I don't really know why, but they all got deleted and such etc. but I'm not here to talk about myself.

We've probably all asked the question, well, at least all of us sane TF2 peeps out there, and the question is...

"Where do we find a .gcf editor?"

This question originated from the time where TF2 updated, and moved their materials etc. in to .gcf files.

I have found a way to extract them, easy. I have found a way to MAKE them, not so easy but full of errors.

You can make .gcf files by using the MakPakGUI in the attachment, and you can extract files using the GCFScape included as well.

Now the tricky part, the MakPakGUI, if anyone can get that to work, please post and tell me how you did it, instructions in the readme.

Now, why do we have to edit .gcf files? Well, if we don't, then we can't edit the materials inside them can't we?

Um, that's pritty much it, if you have any questions I would be happy to answer them. Remember, try MakPakGUI, and if you find a way to make it work, please tell me.

Edit:

I got MakPakGUI working, but it only compresses the FILES inside the folder, not the folders inside the folder etc. If anyone can get THAT working, much appreciated!

Interesting.

But what can we actually do by editing the .gcf files, since we already have wallhacked models.

Possibly bypass sv_pure? Since it reinforces original models, maybe we could trick it into thinking that the wallhacked models are the original ones? I'm not sure, but I think that might work unless Steam checks the integrity of the .gcf.
