PanicWare is byfar the best popup stopper that I've used :)
Hmm.. no, Im lying. I've only used one, it's the first I've tried, and never tried anything else since it's doing it's job, I have no reason to try anything else ^_^

Yeah, I have to agree with luck.. I've used MyIE2 before, and it's great.. You can also make your own plugins and stuff if you sit down and learn how :)

Yeah but the thing is, you can't tell the browser what pop up you want and what you don't want. Like if you're expecting a pop up [java version of a messenger] but it never comes up. I liked panic ware's old one it was great. Hold down [ctrl] and it allows the pop up to appear, release and no other pop up will come up.

Anyone know where I could get an old version of it?

Forgot to mention, you might want to get Ad-Aware from Lavasoft, great program! Even the hackers recommend that!

If its those grey windows that are coming up when you are playing a game you do not need a pop up stopper its simply a setting within windows XP that you can correct yourself.

Follow These Steps:

1) Open up your control panel
2) Double Click On Administrative Tools
3) Double Click on Services
4) Scroll Down That List Until You See Messenger and Highlight it. To The Left You Will See 2 Options "Stop" or "Restart" Click "Stop"
5) Right Click Messenger goto Properties And Where it Says Start Up Type Switch It to Manual So That It Will Not Start Happening Again When You Reboot Your PC.

Just Note This is For The Grey Boxes That Come Up, If You Do Not Have Windows XP then You Dont Have This Problem.

My favorite popup blocker ever is STOPzilla. I have blocked about 2700 popups in just ~3 weeks of use. The only popups it doesnt get are the KaZaZ popup for some reason :(. My trial is running out on this program and I dont feel like paying, does anyone have an idea for a FREE popup protection service?

as far as kazaa goes just goto www.downloads.com and download diet kazaa it removes all banners, spyware and pop ups.

When you open diet kazaa it says page cannot be dispalyed but thats ok because it will still work just great. You will Still be able to download and upload the same but without the lagging banners and pop ups

I had the same problem before and notihng worked. What I did was click "start", then "run" type msconfig and then on the tab labeled "startup" Unclick anything that you don't want. That solved my problem.

I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Pop-Up Stopper Free Edition. Its under download.com It has unlimited updates for life and its great! Need a popup? Hold down ctrl and it comes up. let go and all are gone! Sure it'll miss like once in every week but who cares. its free for life!

well since noone seems to care about what I said.... as in this thread is being brought back to life... I might as well add something to it.

I'm using myIE2 (built in popup blocker) and outpost, there two programs seem to kill all the popups that I don't need, and most ads on pages as well, I find that they work very well.

BTW supposedly in the next update of IE, MS is gonna include a popup blocker

It's the best.

As for popups during gaming, those would be messenger popups.

Start > Run > cmd > net stop messenger

Then:

Start > run > services.msc

and remove "Messenger" from this list. Note: This has NOTHING to do with MSN messenger.

BTW: Moving to tech.

erm yes... the messenger service also tends to leave your computer totaly open to hackers/attacks (not MSN messenger but the messenger service that syphon mentioned)

lol. ad ware remove = ad aware
spyware remover = spy bot, search and destroy
popup blocker = google toolbar. never get popups with that.
