i know this is kinda off topic but i see many hl2 fans in this forum...
Secondly I asked him about some rumours that we have heard that Half Life 2 multiplayer is going to be Pay to Play only, unfortunatly the only official response that I received was no comment. I have to say I was a bit surprised as I was expecting a definative no, so it looks like Valve may be toying with the idea at the very least.
in other words, hl2 multiplayer may be pay to play

If that rumour is true, then I think they may sell the game for lesser then 15$,I mean MP is almost the importent asspect of all.

15$., are you crazy? It have to be for FREE! Because we have to "PAY TO PLAY MP"
so why do we need to pay for the game?

You obviously have never made anything. A game takes serveral MONTHS sometimes YEARS to create. Take your best creation and multiply it by about 57, thats a game.

Wow.. what a moronic idea. If they want to kill thier game before it even arrives on the market.. this would be a sure way to do it.

IssisX is right, most games take years to make. Think about it, years of making a game and selling it for free; umm no. I also have to agree with Mazta, that is ridiculous. This pay2play BS is starting to piss me off (PlanetSide).

Well, thats because you don't know me :)
I know how long a game takes be created.., but thats not the case here. I'm just saying that why would you release a game with "$50" price and then make people pay to play? I mean if they want to make good money, they should of just give it for free and just charge when the "player" is playing or just charge the the game. But doing both?
This kinda sounds like Homeworld lol...
Anyways., It doesn't matter how long it took them to made the game, but if they can't sale it.
Its better for us I guess... LOL
Then the price will drop big time :)

most massive multiplayer games are pay to play.. this generall means more anticheat support, more patches, more public servers form the releasing company, etc

Well, i'm with Mazta, I think it would completely destorythe game. There are so many young people who would play the game and not be able to afford to pay.

If the Pay to Play standard is infact going to be implemented, they would be making a big mistake for the overall sales of the game.

Don't worry, this is an old thread and has since been confirmed it IS NOT pay to play multiplayer.
The confusion arose as you can buy a valve subscription where you pay them $10 a month or something over steam and get all the games they release, the addons, and possibly a few extras. A good idea in theory, but how often do valve release games? hmmmm.... (p.s they apparently have 2 HL2 addons in the pipes already though)

Really it would be like a hundered and 57 thousand times :P.

I dont think that pay2play would kill them. I mean, xBox gets away with xBox live dont they? And also, why the hell does Hl2 care how many people play? All they care about is the money. If they can make $100 per user instead of $50 per user, and they would cut their uers in half by making the price $100... then they will make it $100.
Personally, I am against this Idea. If they make it so you have to pay a one time multiplayer service charge, then I guess they will get away with it. But if you have to pay every month? I dont think so.
