is there any way to help lag in this game? I have set all settings as low as they will go! Sometimes i find a good server but it never lasts long before it starts lagging. I have cable modem....never had a problem in any other games (mohaa, stararcraft, cs). Can anyone help???

We both have exacly the same problem.Halo is just a extreem laggy game, the only thing that helped me alittle little and that may help you too is turning off your firewall while playing.

but remember it has to do with others internet speed, also the ram on your computer.. i have a 128 mb ram and even on campaighn it jitters a bit , it is actually improved for some reason in multiplayer

after watching my bandwidth usage while playing, ive noticed that i can play while my bandwidth usage is around .03 to .05%. (100 mb card so full usage for me would be 2%). Once i start lagging, my usage slowly climbs to 1.5% or so. if i reconnect to the server, my usage goes back down and i can play for a while, but it will suddenly climb back up after about 10 minutes of play. what tha !@#$%$#@!!!!! why does halo make my usage climb up suddenly. It would make sense to me if the usage was always at the top while playing. i dont understand why it spikes up suddenly. anyway, if anyone understands my jibberish and can help i would appreciate it.

i have a kickass system p4 2.6 overclocked to 3.2, 1 GB of 500 mhz ram with 1000 Mhz FSB, ATI 9800 pro, etc etc. I stll get lag, mostly in the campaign, but i play at 1600 x 1200. almost like old nintendo games when there is just too much going on on the screen. it makes me laugh. i lowered my res. then everthing was just fine. For online play try to stick to dedicated servers, they have the least lag, if the host has a crappy connection it doesn't matter what yours is. i stick to servers that i know are good and i seldomly have a problem.

yeah .. that is why online is better because of the connections , there is arely lag on good servers

I can't say what exactly is going on with you guys and your serious lag issues but I don't have any lag whatsoever. I am running win2000 pro, 1.5ghz p4, 256ram, and a 32mb geforce video card. Not a kickass setup by any means but I can run it at 1024x768 with 0 lag in single player or multiplayer. I think it's a compatability issue with some systems because it seems that the game runs beautifully or terrible for people. Fortunately it runs beautifully for me.

I play with the same thing 1024...i also used a tweak posted on somewebsite that makes the graphics use the least about of extra things...(the tweak is applied in the shortcut to halo like "c:\halo.exe" -useff or something like that...anyway thats fps tweak

I also play the game with dialup and its totally smooth...however out of the cllear blue sky their are times when lag strikes while the game was going smooth and i blame this on the servers more then anything.

it also has to do with who your playing against

modifications to the shortcut

-useff turns your picture to crap but makes it look better. youre stuck with this if you have a crap card or you REALLY need the preformance.

-use11 a little lower than the next two. I dont see any difference except in the preformance

-use14 use this or -use11

-use20 this enables pixel shaders v2.0. if you can do this and have high fps, kudos to you. I cant. I use -use14

you can seperate the modifiers with a space. others are

-novideo gets rid of the videos when opening halo. use this.

-screenshot lets you take screenshots. use the prtscr button. saved in the screenshots folder in halo.

-console lets you use the console. I use it for 'rasterizer_fps true' every once in a while, just to take a better look at my preformance. access the console with the ~ button. once you get in, you cant do much till you get out of it. press tab when in there to see your options. youll see.

thats all I would use. so in my shortcut, it says:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\halo.exe" -novideo -console -screenshot -use14

so...I dont see videos in the begining, can use the console, can take screenshots, and have pretty good preformance

I dont lag in any game, period. I just love it. I often see servers with a ping of less than 30. I just dont get it. my computer is good, but not GREAT. whatever.

Well this my sound funny but the lag in the demo is much lesser for me then in the retail game,I dont know why yet,but I think it has something to do with the ports. And my firewall of course.

They always improve the speed of a game in the retail verison. Demo is a beta in a way.
