private online server troubles

i can set up athena, and run it perfectly with my local ip address. however, when i replace my local ip, 127.0.0.1 with my wanip in char_athena, map_athena and sclientinfo.xml, i cannot connect after i enter my username and password. it just says "failed to connect" after 10-15 seconds. does anyone have the same problem? thanks very much.
