Sorry luck but I have to disagree. McAfee has picked up so much more than KAV ever did. Even when I download a virus that i've seen on a report, sometimes with the latest update KAV won't get it.

McAfee > Norton because McAfee isn't a resource hog.

hrm had both mcafee and norotn on my computer...... I personally found KAV to be better then both.... then again the Dr.Web one pickes up some stuff KAV misses so.... give that a try and then tell me what you think about it compared to mcafee

Speaking as someone who actually buys software, I must say I felt I got more for my money with KAV than I ever with McAfee and Norton. McAfee was better than Norton, but that isn't saying much. If you get KAV Personal Pro and update and upgrade regularly it is better than McAfee because McAfee has fewer actual product updates, or so I have noticed.....

hrm well.... I have a KAV PP licence as well so I keep it updated, however the Dr.Web AV works pretty damn good as well, plus the updates are quite regular too ;)

I think most of those sites have a free demo or if I remember correctly either norton or mcafee have a free online virus scan.

luck777jojo: have you ever tried the online virus scan? can it work on my pc coz i have only dial-up connection...pls consider that.

I currrently use AVG, but may switch because of this thread.

dialup usually doesn't affect the online virus scanners, it just uploads a small executable to your computer and does all the checking from that, then deletes it after it's done so dial up shouldn't be a problem.... I, however, am not quite sure how effective they are, I always preffer the full version software to this, it's a great value, not only do you get updates for the entire year, you also usually get a discount when bying the licence for next year, if you break it down like that then you will see that buying AV software is very profitable for you the computer user.

erm you can also try to see if there are any free AV software here: http://download.com.com/3120-20-0.html?qt=anti-virus&tg=dl-2001

ok thanks i'l just ry it!

GrumpySpyGuy: i have tried AVG but it seems that it has weak anti virus detection for the newer viruses. i also tried the avg free version.

what i have here is panda.it came from the bundle of my modem.is this a good AV?
i dont know how to register it. they ask for the some kind of a serial #. but i dont know where to find it. is it possible that my bundle is just not that like of their full version?

If you looking toward buying a better and cheaper antivirus prog then rely on bullguard.
www.Bullguard.com
Its far better then Norton antivirus and its cheaper, and it finds tons more stuff than any other anti virus i ever tried.
You can get a 15 day trial to see if its better for you.

Trend Micro Internet Security, is by far the best I have used.

Norton has the tendency to annoy the living hell out of you!
