View Full Version : in-game glitches that are useful

not sure if you would call these hacks or just tips, but after playing and having a good time at it i noticed a few things;
1) when hit by a large explosion that sends you skyward, if it doesn't kill you right off then quickly engage the parachute while airborne and often you will float down and survive. it's funny as hell seeing someone go like 70 feet in the air after they blowup on a grenade. seems to also work real well with freindly fire turned off, you can drop a grenade near a wall or building and sometimes explode yourself in to the air and parachute down on the building or over the wall.
2) as long as you get under certain vehicles while they aren't going too fast, they can't run you over and even if they pick up speed after you are being "carried" by the vehicle you will survive often without a scratch. sometimes i'll hide under the jeep or tank before they get rolling if they don't immediately see you and then ride with them for awhile and then drop the surprise at an opportune moment.
3) you can hop onto the side of the cobra even though it is already carrying the normal two players inside already and actually ride with them up into the sky while they are flying. you are basically on the little rails or "wings". kind of like an air lift into battle. then you just parachute off of it when you are ready. you might have to "lean" or move towards the chopper when it turns as you tend to slide away from it during heavy turns, etc. sometimes when you just barely don't make it as one of the pilots, you can still get to the fight quicker by riding along this way-
anyways, if you have a useful glitch or tip like this i guess post it here if it can be used as a "cheat" or an advantage. i am starting to get the maps memorized and develop strategies for the various maps.

1. This is due to the game dynamics being closer to the 1.3 patch of bf1942 where you could do tnt/gren jumps. This is true in vietnam. You see the vietnam people split off from the 1.3 patch when making vietnam. I have not heard anything about if they are going to change dynamics or not with the patches in vietnam. What is really funny is after they took away gren/tnt jumping in bf1942, there still is a way to get on top of the roofs in berlin if you know what your doing. My old clan was one of the very few people that learned how to do it. Others still never figured it out(tip: it has to do with blowwing up the apc)

Quick tip:
If a heat seeker is about to tear you open a new one (like Mi-8 vs Cobra or F4) then just switch seats right after they launch a missle and then get back in the pilot position to regain control.
Missles only go after vehicles with a person driving so unless they aimed the missle dead on (highly unlikely unless they know what they are doing) then it'll just go straight or aim for another target. This should by you lots of time from Cobras if done right.
Also I heard that rockets distract the heatseekers but haven't been successful in that area yet.

thx for the nice tip steve. I also often change to the 2nd position in my US helicopter (dont know the name, but the one with homing missles) and shoot the others down - I like that :D

It's the cobra chopper you are talking about. When flying alone, quickly change to position 2, fire the 2 rockets and switch instantly back, as the cobra doesn't hoover.
Its very effective especially against the enemy choppers.

in the cobra - just bind two buttons on your joystick for position 1 / 2, as well as fire for position 2. that way you can jump in the passenger seat & fire missiles then switch back before the pitch of your heli changes

problem is, jerkoffs expect people like me to fly them anywhere like an AirTaxi. So I Spam "BAIL OUT" while flipping in circles high in the stratosphere.
Pick up the Spawn-Boat with the Chinook and Live Forever. The Landing Pad on the Spawn Boat Repairs and Refills Ammo. While you are Carrying it, You can get hurt but you will repair faster than Two people with SA-7s can down you. I wouldnt recommend with a Huey, You are too Slow.
Use the Mi-8's Blades to "cut through the ****pit of a US Chopper." If you position it correctly, nearly ramming the US chopper, you can Kill the Pilot (never seen the CoPilot get Killed) and watch the Heli Fall. I havn't had it to work using a US Chopper against an MI-8 Yet.
The Cobra has an Amazing ability to roll over faster than a Geo Tracker on a 5 degree inclined hill. Bring the Cobra in Sideways and Tilt into the movement to go Bowling, you being the Ball and your Enemies being the Pins. It IS possible to recover from this, but I havn't been able to do so.
Place a Mortar on an AmmoBox. Need I say mor-tar? (kill me now god, Ill Take Cancer.)
Bottom of a Phantom is Strong. Use it to bang into the tops of Enemy Choppers to Knock them around.
Not really a Glitch but a horribly cheap strategy. Any Map with the Mi-8 Spawn Chopper... Fly Up Really High. Keep Flying Up. UP UP UP. Hover over the desired drop points for your allies and inform them of your position and the strategy. Recommend to your Allies that they don't pack SA-7's (heat seekers) when the drop out of the Mobile Spawn Point so that If and When they die, your enemy doesn't figure out what your doing and picks up your Allies Heat Seekers, and aim Straight up.
Leave the GEOMETRY Video Setting Way Up. This almost acts as a View Distance for when you can see the Enemy Units character, I think.
Want to TK your Pilot in a Landed HUEY Gunship? Fire that Grenade Launcher Back and To the Left (J.F.K.).
THE CHINOOK CAN LAND IN THE WATER. (Some people still havn't figured this out.)
God's Greatest Invention: The TimeBomb. Get on a Server where FF is 100%, Spawn as NVA with Timebombs (Sniper Guise with the Shotgun Armor, Bottom Right Caracter Setting, same guy that has bouncing bettys.) Place your Bouncing Bettys Everywhere around your own base, and then find a crowded bunch of your allies. Single Click the Timb Bombs to drop them anywhere. You have 9 Seconds to Run away from the Bomb you have just dropped. You can Drop all Four Timebombs you are Armed with in 5 Seconds. Drop all Four of them, Switch to US (or ARVN) side and when your Timebombs start to go off, UP your points go.
Tanks are a 1-Shot-Kill against Choppers and Jets.
The ZSU is a Glitch. It must be. No programmer in his right mind would make it the way it is. It is incredibly cheap and near invincible.

Remember that switching positions in the Cobra is a hell of a lot easier than an Mi-8 or a heavy chopper because you can have an easier time to regain control of a Cobra than in a heavy chopper. BTW the Chinook on water is soooo true..lots of times i see people jump out b/c the pilot landed in the water and everyone is swimming for thier dear lives..so FREE CHOPPER!
Also you can load inside an spawn chopper just by jumping inside..no need to take a seat inside and you also get free ammo and health...just hope that the pilot doesn't tip the chopper back or else you go flying out the back.
Also jump on tanks and vehicles even if the seats are full and like in the car transport position 2 and other positions where you can use a weapon that you have, let an engineer sit there and tell him to whip out his wrench for a quick autofixing vehicle.
Also helis too close to the ground can have their pilots taken out by one rocket (any) to the ****pit...kinda like the blades thing (which is awesome btw..never knew that).

Very nice you 2. Tho most of them are not glitches, they are more like dynamics of the games but still very nice info to know.
Not a glitch but if u wanna hover more effectively, i found that opening console while over a flag in chopper, u can hover rather nicely :p
