BEWARE uninstalling bf1942 (with BF vietnam installed)

i realize i already posted this in the 42 forum, but just in case some peoples are skipping that to go here-

just so you know, there is a bug within the uninstall for bf 1942 which will also erase your cd keys for bf vietnam if you uninstall bf1942. you won't be able to play vietnam online (reports invalid CD key). basically this is because it erases the entire key in the registry which holds the keys for all the addons and also for battlefield vietnam. EA needs to address this, but for now the fix is to recreate the following KEY in the registry and add your key back to it:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA GAMES\Battlefield Vietnam\ergc

just something i noticed when uninstalling and reinstalling bf1942 (i screwed up the rfa files piddling with it).

yes, and change the key at this key is without the "-".

BTW; something different: I found a cd key changing tool within the BFV installation - [BFV_DIR]\eReg\Battlefield Vietnam_code.exe.
So you see, a KeyChanger tool from the community is absolutly not needed ;)

anyways, test0r is right, the key should look like this when you enter it-

xya2zx7ahgkj83ghtfhr and not:

xya2-zx7a-hgkj-83gh-tfhr (notice you should not use the dashes!)

so if you uninstall bf1942 for some reason (and reinstall it, even) then realize that you are going to remove this key and you will have to replace it otherwise you get the INVALID CD KEY errors online-
