View Full Version : Tutorial: Using Virtual PC & Synclogon

I made this tutorial to help out all you people having problems.
Virutal PC:
1.Download virtual pc from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=4A15008C-3E10-4C54-BCD5-ADC1E780715F&displaylang=en
2. Start virtual pc and create a new virtual pc
3. Next start the virtual pc and install an os like you would a normal computer.
4. Next setup the internet on your virtual pc.
5.
A. Next make a new virtual pc and do it like you did the other one.
B. If you dont want to hastle with step 5.a then do this.. Create a new virtual machine. Now dont install an os or do any of that.. Go to "My Documents\My Virtual Machines\ Name Of Your 1st Virtual PC\" and copy the hard disk. Then paste it into your new virtual pc's folder so "My Documents\My Virtual Machines\ Name Of Your 2nd Virtual PC\" and rename it to "name of 2nd virtual pc" So now you should have 2 virtual pc's with the same hard disk.
6. Configure your other virtual machine so it has internet aswell.
7. Install mu and the patch on both virtual pc's.
SyncLogon:
8. Download synclogon from http://www.mpcforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=582
9. Install Sync Logon on both virtual pc's.
10. Setup a network between both virtual pc's.
11. If you are receiving errors when starting virtual pc.. like "blah.dll is missing" then download the missing file from www.dll-files.com and install it onto your computer.
12. Follow instructions stated on synclogon readme like you would a normal pc.
I hope this helps... post if I forgot anything or if your having problems still..

Have you try this method yet...? and any success? cause I can see since MU can't minimize how toggle back and forth between the account???
RejectPenguin
22nd June 2004, 23:09
With 2 virtual pcs you will have 2 seprate windows with mu running on them.. so you can toggle back and forth between those 2 windows not your real pc and the virtual pc.

Well base on ur answer, the virtual PC use the same resources as the main comp, it's share 1 screen, it's overlay, unless you got dual monitor, I tried it's won't show 2 windows, plus just copy the Harddrive os into the virtual don't work...
So I use VNP/VNC and it's work.. though.. thanks for the tips.. anyway

22nd June 2004, 23:33
Take my advise.
Dont do this if you dont have atleast 256 mb of ram.
In that pic, yor basically running 3 computers, Even running 1 cpu with mu sometimes lags.
If you have like 64, or 126 ram in ur cpu dont even try it. Your gonna freeeze up ur cpu.
Dont do it with a 1 ghz processor or lower. 1 ghz is on the border line. A 1 ghz processor is slow enough for 1 cpu, running 3 cpus is basically running a P2 333mhz cpu.
Most impprtant if you have dial up 56k, dont even think about it.
You cant dial up with a modem already connected on the net that is already connected.
Get dsl or cable

I have 1 ghz ram.. and it still a bit laggy.. so yeah what he says is true.

the memory is not a an issue here I have well over 2 gig of memories.. I am looking for the options to scale it down.... let me give it a try... thanks for the tip!
scstyl3z
22nd June 2004, 23:37
about the hdd space. I recomend atleast 60gb hdd but dont install anything else in the virtual machines besides Mu to reduce lag.
if you want to run it FAST. Recomended raiding ur hdds
scstyl3z
22nd June 2004, 23:39
well when you make a "VM" you can select how much ram you use for it. If ya got 2 gigs or ram. Thats alot so just slpit it evenly

well with vnc you will need 3 computers to actually get it to work.. and this way you can use only 1... but thats a good idea too.
scstyl3z
22nd June 2004, 23:41
and another thing.
On your main pc (non vm) turn off all "ram booster" programs. The ones who free up ram.
It frees all ram and usues it for ur main pc so your like gonna make ur VMs crash
Some of those programs does this..not all just turn them off

22nd June 2004, 23:44
If someone would make a bypass for the minimizer then you could run your real comp and the virtual pc without using as much ramm..
scstyl3z
22nd June 2004, 23:44
Not a long time VM user but haveing dual monitors would work right?
DUal processors for speed
3 gigs of ram
dual monitors (dual monitor setup is expensive. Use a video cards tv out for tv)

Imagine... it's work .. here is the overview of how Virtual PC are..
Overview
Virtual PC is a powerful software virtualization solution that allows you to run multiple PC-based operating systems simultaneously on one workstation, providing a safety net to maintain compatibility with legacy applications while you migrate to a new operating system. It also saves reconfiguration time, so your support, development, and training staff can work more efficiently.
scstyl3z
22nd June 2004, 23:47
yea... i agree with the minimizer issue.
If your main cpu is an xp or 2k. Disable all processes even explorer to reduce ram usage
you can turn on explorer agian by ctrl+alt+del and clicking new task and run " c:/ "
Make all ur VM with WINDOWS ME or less, those os use ALOT less ram
RejectPenguin
22nd June 2004, 23:48
well with all those duel things you might as well buy a new computer.. =/

yeah.. if your laggy alot you might want to wait for minimizer bypass or if you have 2 other computers use vnc.

well i dont need to do all of this.
Personal pc
amd 64 3400+
2 ghz ram
radeon 9600 256mb w/ tv out for dual monitor (tv)
dual 80gig hdd RAID
and cable
Im not saying go and spend over 2k building one of these, I dontnneed a dual pocessor cuz i got a 64. Pentium 4's arnt even close to 64 systems
I dont need ram because I already got 2gigs
Dual monitor is already been setup.
And with the Raid, all data writes 2 times as fast

if you want to get a tripple flat screen setup. Those video cards cost TOO MUCH. Nice ones with goot video can go up to 5k and even more. Professional ones are even up to 15k $15000 for the card.
flat screens. avout 300 for a 15 in. 400 for a 17 or a weak 19
dont do it. use the tv out in ur video cards

i'm bad with these stuff but when i started this virtual pc...
i got stuck with insert boot media... after reading the help file
i inserted my winxp install disc but that did not help...
Could someone do up a tutorial on how to setup the virtual PC from scratch to internet access? Is it very hard to do? very sorry ^^
sov_marksman
23rd June 2004, 13:02
after you started the virtual pc, after you insert your cd, theres a thing at the top "action, edit, cd, floppy, help" click cd, and use phsyical drive of your cd, then reboot the virtual system, that should do it.
haha! you guys a dying for dupes :( well im guess im lucky i got 4computers....and i can dupe :)*im not doing it now anymore tho cuz im scared to get banned man =0=! and hey where a u all dupers? i was yelling out loud ANY1 FROM MPC FORUM here in lorencia heh heh only find one non duper :P well meet me in lorencia now ! i donate to duper :D

for all those who pm'd me about this and got a frosty 'no im not telling you' after my orignial post on Vpc here you go. i stuck to my word and didn't tell any one how to use Vpc for duping, and i'm glad taht someone finally put some time in to work it out instead of just wanting it handed to you on a plate.

lol read the manual, if you can't even work out how to install an os then you should'nt be using a computer.

You can either install the os on one virtual hard disk then run both vpc's using it, which means you will save a lot of time, or you can install both seperately and have less lag when you run virtual pc. setting both vpc's to use one hard disk is in penguins tutorial at the start of this thread

Lol im not gonna install anything before u tell me if its ok i dont want my windows to get ****ed up
nothing will get screwed, it'll just be a bit laggy whilst you are running it, and it wont screw up your computer either, virtual pc is an entirey seperate computer that runs simultaneously, it doesn't affect windows on your machine

one for each comp
install os on the first one
then copy the hddd and set the second vpc to use the copied one

why don't you guys just try and work it out, stop wanting everything handed to you, and if you don't get you answer straight away then don't keep posting 'plz help' 'c'mon guys' e.t.c it's pointless,
have you used the internet connection wizard? i know it seems obvious but you'd be surprised how many people miss the obvious, give more details of your damn problem aswell, how is anyone meant to help when you hardly give any info, you jsut say it's not working but not the things you've tried or any of the error details or anything like that.

Dont use Virtual PC and Sync, use the program WMware Workstation. Download it from e-mule or e-donkey. In 2 clicks, you have a window with the installation setup of your new SO.
