1. Valve shouldn't win, considering the hacks like pharlaps opengl hack works with other games, it's not directly targetting hl's code, it's just trying to prove this that will be a problem. They can't take down a website if the hacks on it work for almost any opengl game like pharlaps gl hack because it's not a directly against that game. That's sabootaging software that is for other games which is not valves business.
Load up pharlaps GLHack in quake 2, it works fine, at least version 2.0 did.

2. There is no law and it would be stupid to think so that you can't cheat in computer games. What about gamesharks? in case you don't know what they are, they are tools sold out to the public to hack into the console (PS2, XBOX) memory to cheat. When a game comes out in the shelves, they are not given the chance to protect themselves against people using the gamesharks on their game. If this is the case, why should valve have the right to stop cheating for their game?? Pharlaps hack is just like gameshark, but for computer games instead of consoles.

Maybe i should become a lawyer :)

Nothing wont happen to MPC. Admins have already done a great job to make sure valve wont do anything to MPC.
