I switched cases, and now i get spontaneous reboots. I was actually posting about 2 mins before, when it rebooted on me. Any suggestions on what it could be?

did you switch power supplies with the case? do you have enough power for the new case if it's got lots of lights and crap, it can cause you to lose power and reboot. need a bit more info here on what all you switched or changed when you got the new case.

sorry man with the reboots bein gay, i didn't have hardly enough time to put the info i wanted into it. I'm running just the bare essentials and seeing if its a power problem. I'm runnin a 420 power supply that came with the termaltake case. and with all the fans, including the extra fan that i'm rockin with the CPU/heatsink, it miight.... might be a problem. I'm running just the bare essentials like i said. 256 ram, video card, hard drive, and motherboard/cpu. nothing more than that, and i'll update you in about a half hour if i got another one. I don't get it.... i called my buddy who runs a comp repair shop, and he suggested everything i did, resetting the video card, checking the wires for the switches (ie power, reset etc) and everything seems fine. So i just got pissed and started rippin shit out (nicely) and got it to post again after some difficulties having it post. and now i'm just sittin here waitin for it to reboot again. If not, then i'll slowly start to put the comp back together. I don't see why it would be a power problem... but i am runnin a Thermaltake high end fan for my cpu... no way is the cpu overheating, even without that fan running, and just booting up, so i don't think its a heat problem. I was runnin 2 fans plus the cpu fan on my other case with a i think its a 380 pw supply. shit i don't know... suggestions are welcome. since my computer is gutted out at the moment anyhow.
Update: 30 mins and still no restart. I think it was a power problem... but who ****in knows. Its a mystery. I'm gonna start piecing it back together in a bit.

sounds like you got the ideas going right there... see if you can get it too crash while you have it gutted and maybe we'll have a bit more info to go on.

its been an hour and 20 mins, and no crash. So not sure what the problem is... its either a power problem, somethin wasn't hooke dup right, ground, or ram.

just out of curiosity, was it the xaser III case?
i had a problem similar to yours, and it was because a wire up in my attic was loose :ermm: but i doubt thats what it is.

First port of call would be to check that no wires or connections are touching the case and grounding/shorting the motherboard

Checked it all, and nothin was shorting on the board, no arking spots on the board, so i reinstalled it, and now it works fine... though i don't have my whole system hooked up, (such as all the fans and thermal monitor etc etc) buut... I'm not sure what the problem was. The only thing i can think of... is its a power issue, but 420 watts should be enough to run it all, and still have room to spare. Who knows, I'm gonna complete putting it together here in a few days, make sure its stable. If it runs well from that point on, then it was a hardware installation problem (ie making sure the cards , ram, cpu, wires were set properly). I've put together quite a few cases, and this is the first problem of this kind I've had. Anyhow, I'll update all of you within a few days.
