Valve defeats CSGuard/Forum downtime 17.06.02
After some tests and conversation with System, I'm really happy that the crappy CSGuard detection method has almost been rendered useless by Valve. In the current version of HL, it is not possible anymore to check a returncode of any file which is located outside your MOD-directory (\cstrike, \tfc, \dod, ...)! That means you can put any cheat into your HL-directory and CSGuard won't be able to find it because Valve restricted the use of the 'exec' command which allowed relative paths before (paths containing \..) as well as filenames having more than one dot. So CSGuard can't check for a file if you call it my.cheat.dll, no matter into which directory you place it! You can check that by yourself when you try to exec such a file from your HL/CS console. Thank Valve also for defeating Cheating-Death and Paladin, which are using hook-methods to infiltrate HL and could therefore be possibly detected by VAC as cheats. Seems like Valve wants to make their VAC the one and only Anti-Cheat system. Fine!
Our hosting will move the forum on a faster, better server in the next few hours so don't be upset if you cannot access the forum ... it will be up again soon and even faster ... At least I hope so
