Proposal to wooolF[RM], Dark Blaze, and Dark...

[][MPC][vin]

I would like MPC to get their own IRCd server. Not network, just server. We can link with rizenet and be mpc.rizenet.org. This will get us new members, make us more prestigous, and allow wooolf to get that ircop position he has always wanted :D. This would mean that we would also have new opers, not just wooolf :P. This is just in idea stages so far, but I think it is a good idea. Even if rizenet goes down, we can keep this server running as long as we unhook it (in case rizenet ever goes down). This may cost some money, so if anyone has a dedicated linux box on a fast oc-... connection, or a dedicated computer to host this, that would be greatly appreciated. However, if no one does, I guess we will have to wait until wooolf gets enough money in donations to buy a linux box and set the forums and if possible, an IRCd server up. Thank you for your time. Remember: this is just an idea, I thought of it, I have taken no steps to make it happen yet.

I don't think that donations are actually comming in so unless wooolF or one of the admins wins the lottery I doubt that they will give the $3000 required for a good linux box to host MPC

Actually there was some people contacting me about MPC's own IRCd. Haven't heard anything from them since... :(

Dont forget that we need a server for mpc.de that means that someone must pay for that.Having our own server in irc will also cost some money.Who we will pay for it?Noone.What means that?That the server and the channel will be down always or frequently.

yes, IRCd servers are very expensive to run... they get DDoSed sometimes too and that is a huge problem :(

well... technically it can! but cable modems are quite unstable. Therefor it's unserios running IRCd on such connection...

anyway, cable modems unstable?
mine hasnt gone down since i got it (a few years ago)...but cept recently, when the morons put a pool in and cut the wrong cable coard and took out our cable...and the entire neighboorhoods (hahahaaha)

well some are stable enought but the biggest problem is that they aren't fast enough, it wouldn't be able to handle all the bandwidth of an irc server

Exactly most Cable modems only have about 120 KB/s Upload (like mine) and that is definatly not enough bandwith. :(

i could get a t1 wich has a 500kb/s upload for 1340$ a month
upload is expencive
and its bad
though the dl is like 14000000kps
right now im at 400/128 going to 800/200

I can get an OC48 connection for only $48000 per month if MPC will pay for it :p I'd be glad to give some of that bandwidth for MPC, heck I'd give 3/4 of that bandwidth to MPC and still have over 13000000kbs upload for myself :p and about 50000000kbs download :confused::devious:

hey i could get a connection to the backbone of the german Telekom,
two problems 1meter of cable costs around 130€
my home is 54km away, that makes 7million € for the cable and i dont know how much u have to pay per month :P

so anyone got some change?
