Downloads from FTP server (non-passive support)

I think most people today are behind firewalls of some kind and therefore have to use passive ftp option to download from FTPS. The mpc ftp server does not support passive FTP so do we have to continually dialup using modem just to download from the FTP!!.

Most decent FTP servers support passive ftp clients dont they?.

Good work with the site and keep it up!, excuse the rant but it is annoying for many people.

I began on a 9.somtin zoom external so dont think Im a nOOb, way back when all we had was bulliten boards :) hehe

To access the forum for me I need to deal with a nightmare I built called a lan, loads of fun... makes it almost not worth the migraine I get from goin in... Each time I do it I end up having to reset everyones pc in my house (they *think* they know what there doing and screw up there ip's)
Yes all ftp's I know of support passive connects, but behind this MB is another can o worms entirely. and or Dark may have it setup this way as a "preventive" measure against attacks.....
It ensures that he will at least have half a chance of ID'ing the attacker through there IP. I have Cable, but I can't download from the FTP unless I turn my firewall off...

Exactly, since when you are behind your wall windows assigns a "private" ip to your box. There no goog for ID'ing since there either in the 192, 10 octets which are reserved for that porpouse, private or lan ip's not public. Theres actualy a few other number ranges in this group just not many so it wouldnt be a positive ID since so many people could have the same number at the same time So Mr. Woolf kindly asks you to come out from your hidey hole an show us who's there, a decent deterrant for most folks not to pull any funny buisness. :) Aloha, KH :)

till i used a ftp program..

also...i just figured a way to speed it up..after reading some shit

and now it is fast for me..

use WS_FTP Pro. cus u can decide if u want to use passive mode or not...so uncheck it...and it works well!

Hay Cypher! Like that cool avatar...Xperience Problems! Yeehaa good one guy! btw, back to ftp woes... Winbloz update site has a browser plug in for "added ftp support" I have always gotten the darn thing when I was there gettin all the rest if the stuff updated its a part of exploder 5.5 or 6 and they hid the thing inside the advanced options menu of xploders upgrade list.... MS...ya gotta hate em xp xperience problems yup daily, why cant they speak in a langauge someone understands? It'd be refreshing to be asked a question in a straight forward manner rather than the reverse negative way they switch to n fro from...they seem like they try to confuse the issue rather than clarify and make it simple. The MS site is ni differnt either, trying to find something as common as Direct X, easy right? not if you enter it in the search window the way I just spelled it with the space... It looks right but the engine makes you wait as it snickers secretly at you then tells you nothing matching your quiry was found !!
