Ok, I have a Linksux Router(Linksys) and I am trying to host a Dedicated Server on one of my computers (not the CPU directly connected to the cable/router) And I put up the server, and joined from one of my other computers and was like yay it works, so I got what I first thought was the IP 192.168.1.101:27015 and gave it to my friends and theyre like it's not up, thats router ip n00b, so i said **** you ****** and found out my actual IP 24.208.251.81:27015 and I g ave it to them and they said the server was not up, but it was and i could join from other CPUs. so its like whenever I host its only for LAN or some shit PLEASE HELP ME!! btw thx tfcfag for trying to help

Not to worry, I also run a server thru a linksys router.
Just open up Internet Explorer and connect to 192.168.1.1. If you've never had to do that before, you should read the documentation that came with it. You'll need to enter the password and log on (that too is in the documentation).
Next, go to the ADVANCED tab, then to the FORWARDING tab.
Enter the following:
27015 27015 BOTH 192.168.1.101
Now be carefull here, you're router is doing DHCP and handing out private IPs starting at 192.168.1.101. If you only have one machine, no problem, but you could run into a problem where your server can get a 102 or something if several people are on you LAN. Its best to have a static IP when having a dedicated server. (anything under 100 is fine because a linksys will only issue 101-254).
If this is a CS server, I believe you will need to forward 27012 in addition (for VAC).
I've setup a few servers this way. It will only take some learning on your part and some time. We can get this to work so don't worry ;)

Boy you said that right! I fussed with my Lynksys for a looong time before I got it figgured out. Theres also another "hidden" setting that they dont tell you abiut that unless you have the newest firmware it wont work period and its spi I believe. Ill check to be sure and tell you if that name is wrong. KH
Yep I looked it is spi , disable it along with block wan requests (make yourself pingable), you also may have to put the serving pc in the dmz. I setip many a server using linkys and swore at them like a Krazy man till I learned how to do it, mow I know and Linksys is a terrific little router for the money. hehe by a cisco sometime, they are like $5000+ LOOL for the $79 mine cost I love it. Good Luck, if you need more help ask me or try DSL Net at www.dslnet.com they helped me too much to even explain lol
