Making sprays are quit easy and fun…..
There’s a couple of ways to go about it Adobe Photoshop or similar type of program.
Height and width are done in intervals of 16 so the minimum would be 16 x 16 max would be 256 x 256.
1. Open your picture up with Adobe Photoshop
Go to (image) and resize your picture to lets say 256 by 256
Click “ok” in the pop up
Now, what I do is go to (view) and scroll down to make the image fit on the screen and toggle back n forth to see how it would really look. As I add text to it to see how it’ll will look in game.
2. Now got to “T” icon on your tools. If you don’t know what your tools are then go to the tab up top, click on the (windows) and scroll down to “tools”. You will now know what disappeared and what appeared. Up top there will be a color box click that! In there you can change your color of the text you want. Anyways, click on the area you want to type |Note: don’t worry if it’s not perfect because you can move it| now start typing away in the FONT you want. In the tools area there will be a 4 pointed star, click on that to move it around or adjust the text where you want your text to be placed.
***when you go to save it will prompt you to “apply” every time you start a new text. Click apply!***
3. Now go to file and click “save” and name it to what you want (we’ll mpcspray.tga as an example) and remember to save it in a “tga” file ( steam recognizes others like bmp, jpg ) but its seems to be the strongest and clearest for my sprays! When you save it remember to put it in a folder you remember.
4. Start steam and go to options, then toward the middle of the pop up you’ll see import spray. Click that and go to the folder that you saved the spray in. click on mpcspray.tga.
Now click apply and you’ll see the new spray show up, click “ok”
Now your ready to go!!
If you follow the directions then it’ll work.
Transparent sprays:
These are done by starting a new file while Photoshop is up…..
1. Click on file and and choose “new”
Name it!! Example: mpc spray
2. Do your width and height example 256 x 256, color mode will be RGB, backround contents will be transparent.
3. Now when you save it you’ll see a grey and white checkered background. This means there is no background.
Start typing away and pasting what you want and apply each item as its asked | like it states above|
4. after your done, you’ll see your window on the right that has tabs for Layers, channels and paths. This one has 4 so there should be 4 layers.
5. Select the top layer and click “Layer “Merge Down” (CTRL+E). Don't just click “Flatten Image”. Repeat this until there is only one layer.
6. Now if you check the channel area there should be a “alpha 1” in black n white.
If you don’t see it go to the bottom and click new channel… it should pop up.
7. Click ”Select” then Load Selection and then make sure that it appears with dotted lines around it all (but with different file names / layer names).
8. You should see a dotted selection line tracing the outline of your image. If not, make sure you keep merging the layers. Now, without losing the dotted outline, click “Select -Save Selection” and then click 'Ok' in the box that pops up. You don't need to give it a name.
Also, make sure you still see the grey n white checkered background. If its white then it wont be transparent.
So ther you go.. like always if you followed the directions you’ll have a transparent spray!!
see the sprays underneath... the dotted one is how it should look after you merge it and the other is how it will look with no backround in the game.

I get that too... the only thing i could think of is that there comp dosent support tga files. So I tried it in bmp,jpg ect.... and they see it but when I convert it back to tga they see it. puzzles me, but maybe someone can answer that? the only conclusion I have is to redo it

tga isn't supported. you'll need to get a tga converter, that converts it to a hl2 spray file. vtf2tga.exe is the file name. Google it.

No, what Im saying is why ppl dont see it when I have it in a tga format . I switch it to a jpg they see it. when I switch it back to a tga file they see it.
