I tried to go to my shortcut of half life 2, and enter -console into the run properties, but when I run the game, it opens up steam, and then makes me click play games, and then double click on half life 2 in the games list....then my ~ button doesn't bring up the damn console! what do I put in the properties, and where do I put it to get the console to work?

Right-Click Hl2 in Steam//Play Games and go Properties.
There Click Launch Options and there you can put "- console"

Oh, I get it, I go to my c:/valve/steam/hl2 directory, click on the actual executable halflife file, and then right click and go to properties, and then put -console in there!! Thanks a lot!!

I guess you can do it that way, but there is also an option in the 'Play Games' menu of Steam to change launch parameters.

actually, this doesn't work, you can only do it under the "play games" part of steam.

Make sure you set your -heapsize to half your ram also....
I have 1GB of ram, so I use '-console -heapsize 512000' for better performance.

All you need to do it go to the Options menu, then go to Keyboard, and there should be another button on that tab somehwre that brings up an advanced menu with the option to turn on the "~" key for console.
