When you play an online game, you no longer controll some memory operations. You either need to trick the serever you play on or find operations that you still have controll of.

The level of dificulty all depends on how you think... if you've hacked a few games, you start to realise what can be hacked and not. I'd suggest finding a game with both offline and online game modes (like FPS games), then try hacking in offline mode first, then change to online mode and see what you are still able to hack.
The best way to find out is by trial and error.

...Anything with the Quake 3 engine (games are listed by category at the main MPCForum page), Half-Life 1 or 2 engine, Doom 3, Halo, Tribes, etc. For multiplayer games, you will only be able to edit the data that is defined by you on your computer, like graphical or sound options.

If you can't afford or borrow a simple game like HalfLife(1), i'd suggest you search the internet for free multiplayer games, we're not gonna breastfeed you ;)

Never heard other than macros for it. And it doesn't support singleplayer.
