Because HL2 was released before HL2DM, there is no way to access the DM mode through the HL2 game.

HL2DM runs on the source engine, and a couple of extra materials from the HL2 GCF's, but at the end of the day, you will have to load up steam, and download "Half life 2 Deathmatch" from the Games menu...
