I have just bought a new PC with an Intel Pentium 4 processor and ghot the Intel speed checker thing. When i checked the speed it said my chip was overclocking. Can anyone tell me what this means?

Your processors core speed is at whatever it says on the box, most likely as it is a pentium. Overclocking means you are applying extra "stress" onto your CPU to increase performance, therefore doing more calculations per second, resulting in faster computer (in simple terms).
It is the same as adding more weight to bench press at the same speed and intensity as doing 100lbs less, you create more sweat and you feel exhuasted after a while.
On the CPU, that stress is more calculations and the tiredness is your CPU's life, as it will be cut down considerably.
Another thing, it is "chip", not ship :P.
Hope this helps.
